Liz Truss is “enjoying” implementing policies which cut taxes for the rich, caused the pound to plummet, sent mortgage costs soaring, nearly destroyed people’s pensions and will lead to a new wave of austerity, says key ally. thetimes.co.uk/article/simon…

Liz Truss has literally chosen to prioritise tax cuts for the ultra rich over ensuring disabled people do not starve and freeze this winter. It’s obscene.

NEW OBR confirms on record my story from 9 days ago that it prepared a draft forecast for new Chancellor waiting for him on first day at Treasury 6th September, and that an offer for a legally compliant forecast to accompany the mini-budget was rejected. bbc.co.uk/news/business-6297…

The intractable truss problem: She cant fire her chancellor because theyre in it together; she cant change her mind - because her strength/ ideology is her USP; she cant call a GE because she'd lose - on current polling - badly enough to put Cons out of power for a decade..

Factcheck: The same family who are coming off a £300,000 mortgage on that property at an interest rate of 1 per cent, and who now have to fix on to the average two-year rate of 4.87 per cent, would pay £596 more per month, or *£7,152* more per year.
Thanks to the Growth Plan, a typical family moving into a semi-detached property will save £2,500 on stamp duty and £1,150 on energy bills – and if they have a combined income of £50,000 around an additional £560 on tax. This is around £4,200 in total.

More offerings on attendance at #CPC22 - one former Tory minister tells me 'a lot of the serious people just wonder why on earth they would spend time on a short- lived doomsday cult. They're better spending time redrafting their CVs for the likely '97 moment...'

The people who dismissed the risks of Truss's fiscal policy causing a market meltdown were largely the same people who dismissed the economic risks of a No Deal Brexit. Not a coincidence.

That was the worst provincial campaign of any of our leaders since autumn 1216 when King John, marching about dealing with a rebellion & two invasions, caught dysentery in Norfolk, lost the Crown Jewels in The Wash and died in Nottinghamshire
