43 years ago today, Annunciation House opened its doors for the first time. Since then, we've welcomed hundreds of thousands of migrants and refugees in our houses of hospitality--many in these last few years (with much help from community partners).

Annunciation House mourns the passing of our dear friend Fr. Peter Hinde, O. Carm. His witness on the border brought joy and light to so many. Dale Señor el descanso eterno y brille para él la luz perpetua. Descanse en paz. Amén.

We recognize the Int'l Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. This is not just a day we mark on our calendars, but rather a reality we have encountered through accompanying our guests. We demand an end to impunity & continue the fight for justice. #HastaEncontrarles

Today, we recognize the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. We remain committed to accompanying our guests who come through our doors seeking refuge, and instead too often have to navigate a complicated legal system. You are not alone. #EndTorture

Commemorating #IndigenousPeoplesDay today, we acknowledge what US poet laureate @JoyHarjo writes in her book #AnAmericanSunrise : that “the indigenous peoples who are making their way up from the Southern Hemisphere are a continuation of the Trail of Tears.”

At our 2019 Voice of the Voiceless this past weekend we honored the refugee children of the border for awakening the conscience of the nation. We must not stop working until they are all safe, well-treated and reunited with their families. #CloseTheCamps #vov2019
