The public rightly expect government to be conducted properly, competently and seriously.
I recognise this may be my last ministerial job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for and that is why I am resigning.
My letter to the Prime Minister below.
I have spoken to the Prime Minister to tender my resignation as Secretary of State for Health & Social Care.
It has been an enormous privilege to serve in this role, but I regret that I can no longer continue in good conscience.
For all the lies coming out of Downing Street, the real story of the Chris Pincher scandal is about power and how Boris Johnson used his to protect an abuser. bylinetimes.com/2022/07/05/c…
Wow!! Ex-minister Nick Gibb suggests that, as in the US, “you worry whether democracy is safe”.....as he calls the Cabinet to bring down the PM
“We have to make sure that doesn’t happen in this country. We have to get rid of the rot in our political system” - tells R4
Power.
"Pincher used his position of power to abuse people & the PM used his own position of power in order to help him get away with it... Abusers & their allies are aware of the imbalance & use it to protect each other"

Some Tory MPs saying the scandal around Chris Pincher’s appointment has made them more angry than partygate. Deputy chief whip is meant to be pastoral role within party.

🔴 The Chris Pincher Scandal: A Story About Power and how Boris Johnson Used his to Protect an Abuser
For all Downing Street's lies, the real story of this scandal is how the PM gave the green light to sexual abuse in Westminster, reports @AdamBienkovbylinetimes.com/2022/07/05/c…

Been there. Done that. Purchased the t shirt. “I’m sorry. I will listen. I will learn” then joke behind closed doors “I don’t see any problem etc”. It won’t wash any more. That tactical ship has sailed (and sunk)

Feels very febrile at the moment. Lots of intense conversations going on in Tory circles - “political” meetings of ministers and advisors in departments without officials, rumours that people might act. Been here before but a good deal of uncertainty after a bad day for Johnson
It is time for cabinet colleagues to recognise the appalling damage that the Prime Minister is doing to the party, government and country.
It isn’t good enough and each day that passes those who sit in cabinet will be more complicit with this farcical situation.

🚨 Am told PPS resignations coming later today, usual caveats. Meanwhile coordinated 1922 efforts in motion. Plan is to change leadership rules BEFORE summer recess
Laughter in the Lords as Cabinet Office minister Lord True repeats for the benefit of peers what his colleague Michael Ellis told MPs earlier this afternoon in the standards in public life UQ. Even Baroness Evans, Leader of the House of Lords, seems to find it all a bit funny.
Its all a blur! Looks like Downing Street via the handout pictures (left) didn't want you to see the glum faces in cabinet this morning. Luckily @JustinTallis from @AFP was there to tell the whole story.
Definite feel since this that mood is turning. Ministers saying they feel “dispensable”, government insiders saying the mood in cabinet is “changing” and morale low. One government source says two schools of thought in Downing St - “batten down hatches” or “be as open as we can.”
🚨 Exclusive: Boris Johnson was made aware of a formal complaint about Chris Pincher's "inappropriate behaviour" while Mr Pincher was a Foreign Office minister from 2019-20, the BBC News can reveal.
