Listening to the debate of Bill 81 is beyond troubling. The changes that are being made are undemocratic. People should be outraged that these changes are happening and that such an important issue is being debated after midnight when many people are sleeping. #ableg #abpoli

In fact, any changes to the democratic process should be done by an independent committee of Albertans. That’s the process we follow as a municipal government. An independent commission was set up to review our ward boundaries so that there wasn’t political interference.

This is not partisan. This is about our democracy. How could anyone try to suggest that the changes about to be voted on make our system more democratic?

I’m hearing some people suggest that this bill needs more work but that there’s not enough time. That’s a ridiculous statement. A bill that changes our democratic process can be referred back to do more work. Why pass it now? Why not work with an independent committee?
