Some U.S. states are changing the definition of a COVID patient, which is causing a large drop in the number of patients. One of those states is New Hampshire, where the health department is counting only 4% of COVID patients 1/3
Under this new definition, a COVID patient is only counted if they're being treated with remdesivir or dexamethasone, which is often used to treat moderate to severe illness 2/3
As a result, New Hampshire is reporting only 4 COVID patients. But the Hospital Association puts the number much higher: 36, or 87 if you include patients who are no longer positive but are still being treated for COVID-related illness 3/3
U.S. Vice President Harris will be working from home after being in close contact with her communications director, who tested positive for COVID-19, the White House says
China has a daily report with 2 figures: new symptomatic cases and new asymptomatic cases, but only the symptomatic cases are added to the country's tally for confirmed cases (there are also questions about what it takes to be classified as symptomatic)
Not all states have already reported their backlogs. We don't just look at the raw numbers, we do the math every day to estimate the actual increase, taking into account reporting differences. Today's cases are up an estimated 6.5% from last week
