We are disappointed but not surprised that @BootsUK has rejected calls from MPs, campaigners, and women’s healthcare bodies to retain a fairer price for emergency contraception. Today, Boots are charging between £15.99 and £56.50 (!!!!) for this essential medication.
Women needing levonorgestrel EC who have a BMI of over 26, weigh more than 11 stone, & those on certain medications, must purchase a double dose pack. This costs £31.98 for the generic and £56.50 for the branded version. That's almost £60 to prevent unplanned pregnancy.
Now that Boots have doubled the price of emergency contraception, BPAS will double our efforts to make this medication accessible for all those who need it, all year round. We will also continue to campaign for properly funded NHS sexual health services.
