#China’s massive heatwave (already going on for months) is causing serious strains on electricity in #Sichuan and #Chongqing which has, in turn, led to factories having to close temporarily. Apart from hitting manufacturing there it’s also disturbing the country’s supply chain.

And extraction industries have a poor history at decommissioning and remediation. You can bet when the penny drops for the hold-outs that these fossil fuels will need to largely stay in the ground, hands out for govt assistance will make quick-draw McGraw blush
~10% of the NEM already is gas. We need to keep existing assets running for their useful lives (10-20 years, fading tail).
New 40 year generators not needed & instantly stranded.
New extraction basins for next half century? Propaganda. Won’t help anything in under 10 years.
