James Daly on #bbcpnw saying that the last 10 years he’s been a politician, has been a disaster. James, I hate to break it to you but you’re a Conservative and your party has been in office for 12 years. You crashed the economy. The Conservatives aren’t working.

Labour believes that we must have more ambition and higher standards for children in England’s schools. Excellence must be for everyone. And we believe that to pay for that, the tax breaks private schools enjoy should end. A thread... 🧵 thetimes.co.uk/article/remov…

We can build a fairer, greener future by: Fixing the broken political system, to restore trust in politics. Giving powers for towns, cities, regions and nations. Placing power directly in your hands. All starting this week. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Nadhim Zahawi on @bbclaurak No you aren’t fixing the economy. You crashed it. Conservatives aren’t working. As we saw in Chester, Labour is ready.

Nadhim Zahawi on @SophyRidgeSky trying to blame everyone else for the problems in the UK. The Conservatives crashed the economy. That’s why living standards are predicted to fall by 7% in the next 2 years and why we are predicted to have the lowest growth of any OECD country.

3/3 Opening a new coal mine will not only be a backward step for UK climate action but also damage the UK’s hard-won international reputation, through our @COP26 Presidency, as a leader in the global fight against climate change

2/3 - the new coal mine expected to create 500 jobs - but @LGAcomms says potential for 6000 GREEN jobs in Cumbria by 2030 - @theCCCuk has noted the mine would increase 🇬🇧 CO2 emissions by 0.4Mt annually : clear implications for our legally binding carbon budgets

1/3 As a decision on granting permission for a new coal mine in Cumbria looms, some facts: - 85% of coal produced would be for export, not domestic use - two major UK steel producers won’t necessarily use much of the coal, not least due to its composition and sulphur content

United Utilities tell me they are due to start works on Tues or Wed next week and it will take 5-7 days to complete. Although I am pleased that we are finally seeing a resolution to this. It is absurd that this has taken so long.

I will be writing to both United Utilities and Network Rail to ask that they put systems in place so that if this happens again, arrangements can be made immediately in order to get the road reopened as soon as possible.
