When we say "look at things from a different angle", it's fairly easy to understand for physical objects. But for other people, we get stubborn. Why do I have to try to see things from the perspective of someone who's wrong?

THREAD: Yesterday, the New York Times published a headline it knew was false. The implications of this are dangerous for everyone who cares about an informed public. Here’s what happened:

COVID mutations and climate breakdown both indicate the need to rapidly end the Global North / Global South inequity. Time to realize we actually are all in this together, and act like it.

I could not care any less about not prosecuting shoplifters for under $900 of loss. It costs the taxpayer more to do that than the value of the loss. It is purely a company problem, their security is not my problem. I do not authorize a public blank check to hunt petty shoplifter

In a few years, we will look at nineties cookbooks like seventies cookbooks, except instead of weird Jell-O molds, it will be tons of boneless skinless chicken breast cooked in nonfat cooking spray with hardly any seasoning.

On thanksgiving I’m thinking of these indigenous workers, stuck on forever-β€œtemporary” labor contracts, working in Massachusetts, abandoned by labor law and apparently their union, arrested for protesting and striking for higher wages. If you had a hot meal today, chip in $50.

As a public defender, I represented literally hundreds of Black men & women accused of doing this. Most literally couldn’t afford $2.75 subway fare. Difference between eating/not. Arrested, caged, forced to plea to the crime of β€œtheft of services.” But when you’re white & proud:
After leaving their rally in NYC today, Proud Boys bypass the subway toll by going through the Emergency Exit door.

The Japanese have been producing wood for 700 years without cutting down trees. In the 14th century, the extraordinary daisugi technique was born in Japan. Indeed, the daisugi provide that these trees will be planted for future generations and not be cut down but pruned as if 1/2

1/ Listening to @POTUS' speech on supply chains? The shipping business is complex. But the crisis that’s rattled the supply chain for consumers and businesses alike, and left store shelves empty during a global pandemic? That’s simple. One word, four syllables, starts with β€˜M.’

Every year I invite people who are celebrating the colonial holiday to do something in support of Native people. Between the hyper-criminalization of Water Protectors and attacks on Native families, sovereignty & voting rights, this is a crucial time for our communities. (THREAD)
