I worked in a hospital in my mid 20's and spent time with patients with severe emphysema from smoking. Being alive and not able to breathe properly is a miserable way to go. I've had patients beg me to never start smoking, -I've listened.

After 24 years, I quit about 3 years ago, using the patch. The trick is you have to want to quit. It doesn't work if you try because others want you to quit.

Not surprising at all. I know many people who after years of not smoking started again do to the stress of the pandemic also same with first time smokers. What makes you think this is surprising? this should surprise no one at least no one who knows the first thing about people
