I feel like people who are *surprised* that the cops who did this are black are about to learn a part of "the Talk" that my parents at least always emphasized: The race of a cop is "cop." *Never* be under the illusion that a Black cop is less likely to brutalize you or kill you.

the way disability twitter is mocked on here changed very quickly from "disability twitter doesn't talk about anything of substance" to "disability twitter is histrionic for discussing mass apathy about & participation in eugenics" and fascists directly influenced this change.

as someone who has been riding public transit consistently for a decade, the number one thing that would make me feel safer is more frequent service. not transit cops. here’s why:

Let’s be clear here: If you’re advocating that all trans women convicted of a non-sexual crime, who pose no threat of sexual violence to other incarcerated women, should be housed in male prisons, you’re supporting rape as a punishment for non-payment of fines, shoplifting etc.

It is totally maddening that people like this have fought for years to defund and restrict public education and then go to claim that it is failing and the only solution is privatization to restrict who has access to a good education

UPDATE: Union Pacific, one of the railroads that successfully fought off workers' demands for paid sick days, announced a record $7 billion profit. The company said it spent $1.7 billion more on stock buybacks in 2022 than on pay and benefits for all of its employees.

When Prince Harry talks about how everyone was envious of how good Meghan was at the job, it felt a bit aggrandizing. Then I saw this, and I realized, oh, no, Meghan has a skill set none of them have. Princess Anne isn't id-ing problems and creating brand partnership solutions.
The Duchess of Sussex has launched the Smart Works capsule collection in London.   The charity, of which Meghan is Patron, helps women to dress and prepare for interviews by providing them with key workwear essentials. #DuchessOfSussex @SmartWorksHQ #MeghanMarkle

I need people to shift their thinking about accessibility. It's not that conferences were doing anyone a "favor" by being virtual and are now transitioning back to in-person only. They were excluding people before and now want to go back to excluding people again.

From abroad, the mass shootings in the US seem like a preventable illness. Two friends in the UK independently told me “if Americans don’t want to fix the problem, I can’t feel sorry for them.” It gave me pause.

You can look at it from any mapping app. There’s landscaping in the way of sidewalks, not houses. It will be fine, Lady Nimby of Pearl Clutchonia.
"Andrea Mitchell and Alan Greenspan trying to block construction of a sidewalk outside their $1.5 million by arguing that the sidewalk would be an assault on black history" is one of the funniest things to ever happen washingtoncitypaper.com/arti…

I will say, Spectrum publishing non-autistics saying they prefer to work in spaces with no autistic people so they can do ableist and dehumanizing work against autistic people in peace is useful, because it shows just how callous these people are. Our lives are careers to them.

Book folk, a reminder. You're allowed to hoard books; read books in any form you like; borrow books; donate books to charity shops; talk about books; recycle books; cut books in half. And none of these things make you a better or worse person than anyone else.

All this, but I also want to add that humans have a very powerful capacity for self-delusion. When a person finds themselves in a very popular and lucrative position, they are incentivized to seek out "evidence" (usually unproven anecdotes) affirming that position.
We’ve all wondered why scientists or MDs “turn”. How respected folk can find themselves deep in the anti-vax community. It’s a decidedly simple (but dangerous and malicious) process. Below is a thread on how people become “red pilled.” 🧵

It is profoundly ableist to: - tie worth to productivity. - deem people feeble and ineffectual if they're experiencing health issues or disability. - believe only non-disabled people have a right to exist in this world. And yet Emanuel continues to do so with reckless abandon.
Replying to @ZekeEmanuel
2. Death is a loss but living too long is also a loss. It leaves most of us debilitated and unable to contribute to society. We are no longer remembered as being vibrant and engaged, but instead as feeble and ineffectual. thetimes.co.uk/article/zeke-…
