The utter shitshow #PrisonersoftheGhostland = BAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDUMB. Nothing can prepare you for the new lows in puerile amateurism in which this film wallows. Seeing #NicholasCage in one of his very best, #Pig, the same week as this atrocity = cognitive dissonance.
Overlong, turgid, a bit bland, without nearly enough footage of its namesake as this Oklahoma native was hoping for, I nonetheless have to tip a hat to New Englander #MattDamon for perfectly nailing the physical & verbal cadence of a certain brand of taciturn Okie in #Stillwater.
Otherwise wholly unrelated, #JohnWick & #Pig spring from the same catalyst, but whereas the former views its proceedings through a lens of justice, the latter does so through one of injustice. Both entirely different beasts (pun unintended) yet masterful in their respective ways.
Viewing #MyLeftFoot for the very first time on #HBOMax and I’m only halfway through and I think I’m ready to go on record that #DanielDayLewis gives the single best performance in the entire history of cinema. I am completely beside myself. This transcends acting entirely.
I’m not quick to cry racism but @Walmart carries the 4K of THE GREEN KNIGHT when it made less than $19 mil but they don’t carry #Candyman, which made over $77 mil & @Target has all the discs of this hidden in w/the old catalog releases instead of front-and-center as a new one.
I still rank #NaturalBornKillers & #Martyrs as the worst films I’ve ever seen because of their moral depravity, but pretty sure #SpeedRacer, inexplicably receiving accolades from some quarters as a misunderstood masterpiece, takes the #3 spot & I at least finished the other two.
2020’s #Surge is a modern day echo of 1993’s #FallingDown, and it repeats the latter’s critical error of going too far, pulling #BenWishaw’s all too relatable inability to cope into a gonzo lunacy very few of us can see ourselves in. Wishaw gives a strong, if showy, performance.
I can’t even begin to reconcile #Censor’s last 30 minutes of “we’ve gone completely off the rails here” trash w/its steady, evocative opening half-hour. Thank you so much, @hulu, for saving me from blind-buying a #Bluray that would’ve been a complete waste of money. #CensorMovie
I was hoping that #BrandonCronenberg’s earlier film #Antiviral would live up to the level of mastery of its successor, #Possessor, & though you can see the potential of the latter percolating nascently in the former, it’s ultimately a 45-minute student film played much too long.
A lot of people poo-pooing #HalloweenKills. At the risk of being judgmental, this was a movie for the long-time fans and if you didn’t like it, you must not be one of ‘em. I can’t friggin’ WAIT for #HalloweenEnds!
Please stop mulling over whether to proceed w/a 3rd season of #Mindhunter, @Netflix. It’s #DavidFincher we’re talking about here. The prestige factor is through the roof. Make it happen & I promise we’ll show for it. Hell, make some #Blurays & many of us will buy those, too!

Boy, until it bites off more than it can chew with CGI flame effects decades before we had that down pat, we really collectively forgot how exquisite the merger of puppetry with CGI is in 1997’s #TheRelic, didn’t we? Really, it’s very nearly #JurassicPark’s equal in this regard.
I can’t say #Alone has a lot on its mind, but it’s lean and mean. Maybe nothing new under the sun, but what it does, it does exceedingly well. And I’ll tell ya what—after #Ozark, #TheOutsider, and now #AloneMovie, just the sight of @marcmenchaca gives me the heebie-jeebies.

When I think of “torture porn”, I don’t think of #Saw. SAW offers wit, commentary, and layers. For torture porn, I think of films like #Martyrs. MARTYRS has nothing to say. It is vacuous & depraved. It replaces #NaturalBornKillers as the most morally bankrupt film I’ve ever seen.
If there’s any great failing to the charming, and often even riotously funny, #HaroldandMaude, it’s that (despite #RuthGordon’s depthless talents as an actress), the best scenes are always when Harold (#BudCort) flies solo (or parries his stuffy mother in the wickedest manner).
Have you ever seen one of the true classics, one of those films universally considered to be among the All Time Greats, and come away not understanding on any level—not performance, not writing, not directing—why it’s a titan of cinema? #TheSeventhSeal is one such film for me.
