I might be biased but young people in #Brighton are so amazing! Such a brilliant visit to @BHASVIC with some great questions on voting systems, climate and how we can make a better world both inside and outside of Parliament Thanks to so many for giving up your lunch break 🙂

Labour must urgently clarify its stance. This climate-wrecking mine must not open in the first place - but if it does become operational, it would be inexcusable for a Labour Govt not to shut it down immediately & replace with green jobs & investment #kickoutcoal @horton_official
Labour figures have been speaking out against the mine, but would they shut it down if in power? Read the @guardian liveblog to find out where they stand. theguardian.com/politics/liv…

Gove doesn't just need a bollocking for being unable to even read out a Ministerial statement properly. He needs one for giving the greenlight to this climate crime of a coal mine in the first place. #kickoutcoal
Replying to @paulwaugh
I'm told Speaker gave Gove "a bollocking" behind the Chair. Gove insisted it wasn’t a ministerial code breach but source says clerks told him in no uncertain terms that it is. Gove had prepped a short 2 min speech (for an Urgent Q) + ad libbed to turn it into a statement

It is extremely unlikely, as parroted by elements of the press, that the coal mine will be 'net zero' as it is working on the assumption that carbon capture and storage will be in effect, when there isn't functioning industry level CCS in this country yet.
As we wrote last week, Cumbria coal mine finally gets green light, first for 30 yrs. Will be for specific use and net zero site but green campaigners and tories will rally against it, especially post cop27 row

Great piece from @CarolineLucas in the Times yesterday about the dangerous financial deregulation agenda. We need regulators to be given statutory objectives for climate & nature, not 'growth & international competitiveness'. Full piece (paywalled) thetimes.co.uk/article/clima…

Phasing out coal use is the clearest requirement of the global effort towards Net Zero. The Secretary of State’s decision will have implications beyond the UK’s borders. This was our previous advice. theccc.org.uk/publication/le…

We're seeing a "climate crime against humanity." Green Party MP Caroline Lucas MP tells @krishgm, "I've never been as desperate as I feel right now," as a new coal mine in Cumbria gets the go-ahead.

Climate-wrecking emissions; unwanted by steel industry; stranded asset within a few years. This will be a toxic, costly & useless dump by 2030. Cumbria needs lower bills, more jobs & economic revival - a coal mine won't deliver them. Me for @guardian 👇 theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Instead of backing 1000s of green jobs & sustainable, long-term economic revival, Govt has backed a climate-busting, backward-looking, stranded asset coal mine. The decision to greenlight this mine is a climate crime against humanity - & we must challenge it every step of the way

#COP15 starts today - the most important nature summit in a generation & our best chance to reverse its destruction. To his shame, our PM has failed to even turn up - but if he won't show leadership, he must at least show ambition to set credible, deliverable & time-bound targets

As Matt Hancock looks forward to spending more time playing on his app, feeling his way round the jungle & reaping the profits of a Covid contract that he handed to his own brother-in-law, we're all looking forward to him leaving Parliament once and for all - good riddance

At #PMQs Sunak tells us to "remember the context" re PPE Tory "VIP" scandal - but we do remember the context, people being selfless, helping one another - making it even worse that Ministers were helping mates seeking a fast buck whilst failing to respond to real offers of help

At #PMQs @rishisunak throws numbers around to give false impression Tories have delivered on affordable housing - he should try that line on millions living in housing crisis, paying sky high rents for mouldy, cold homes - we need a mass programme of zero carbon council houses

Sunak says he's "shocked" to read of Baroness Mone pocketing millions - hasn't he paid attention to rest of his party? Hancock's Covid contracts for his own family? Ex Health Minister Lord Bethell in cahoots with lobbyist Tory MP Owen Paterson? So much for Govt "integrity" #PMQs
