We'd have to get the green light from all 27 member states. And we would not get the privileges we had before we left, such as the infamous rebate. Assuming we still meet the criteria for membership.

We don't. Not any more. The 1993 Copenhagen Criteria sets out the conditions. We don't meet them currently.

Plus, would UK’s current election system be classed as a “functioning democracy”? An 80 seat majority with little more than 40% of the vote, for example, might be regarded in some quarters as a “no”.
