I know many followers are banging their heads wondering why the response to this pandemic has been characterised by slow and inadequate measures. As a former conservative I’d like to use this thread to shed some light on the political philosophies informing responses.

The recent CDC recommendation against routine condom use is appropriately in line with public attitudes.

What’s more important @abcnews ? The ramblings of ex PM NOW nobody Morrison? Or trying to stop 100+ deaths per day? Your indifference shows your “journalists” couldn’t give a flying rats arse about vulnerable Australians dying en masse from a PREVENTABLE disease #auspol

This is a scandal. I know of several healthcare workers who developed long COVID in the line of work with inadequate infection control in hospitals & inadequate PPE - now being left with no support or recourse after becoming disabled.
Difficult day today. Had another review meeting at work today. I have now been started on the medical redeployment process. I have 3 months in which to find a new job in my trust. Otherwise I will be taken down the capability route and sacked. Hard not to feel hurt & betrayed

Crap💩💩💩‼️ 30-40% have not had a third COVID jab... Nevermind a fourth! @mildanalyst We have plenty of Anti-Vax sentiments and a complete poverty of messaging about Long C-19. We are F..ked🤬

As I've said all along We have been failed by 2 administrations in a row and by our nations highest public health experts
The immense, concerted effort to gaslight us to “go back to normal” & ignore high rate of Covid & emerging #Monkeypox pandemic feels very creepily like the lies they told us Jan/ Feb 2020, knowing what was coming. Know abt this? Lots of same players. Trust them at your peril.

Professor. Humanity is walking into an intergenerational, immunogenomic, natural selection event against a multi-headed hydra, sent by nature to cull and maim the human population. We should cut the bullshit and say so. ps. Hope you’re well ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥🐾

When Mary-Anne Thomas MP prioritised the demands of a "business lobbyist" over the health of Victorians as her first act as Health Minister, I knew we were in serious trouble.

Another step towards a pan-sarbecovirus, variant-proof vaccine. There are now >35 antigens (epitopes) that can be used in combination, in & outside of the spike, to induce very broad, potent antibodies. But there's no coordination of efforts or priority pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.22…

Why don’t @AlboMP and the premiers find this embarrassing? It’s going to be talked about in history. The records will be there. They’ve completely f’d it up. It will be their legacy. Not what they planned when they started out, to go down in history as the leaders who did this.
This is why health system around Australia is under extreme pressure.

"How on earth could evolution throw up something as complex as the Mammalian eye?" "How on earth could humans expect to fly in heavier than air craft?" 1940: "How on earth could Britain hope to defeat Hitler?" 1961: "How on earth could the US put a man on the moon by 1970?"
How on earth would you eliminate Omicron? I was in the UK recently at a time when 1 in 15 people were infected. It’s so contagious! The UK has done a superb job in its vaccination campaign, & is the 1st county to offer variant-specific boosters—this is key to keeping deaths down
