Holy hell, what a mess. @AnnieLowrey platformed a notorious far-right extremist @richieSF2016 to argue for a more racist justice system. Richie is best known for his deranged rants against Black people living in San Francisco. Just an article full of angry white grievance.
"The country has lurched from concern over murderous police violence and the tragedy of mass incarceration to concern about cities under siege and higher homicide rates. [Chesa] Boudin has responded in part by refusing to respond," @AnnieLowrey writes: on.theatln.tc/z0u6HSL

The average American is much closer to being a Chad Centrist than a Virgin Centrist
I don’t think this is actually true - most people don’t want moderation across all issues, but rather an incoherent mix of extreme positions (in both directions) and some moderate positions

The Republican candidate for governor in Pennsylvania wants to undermine democracy.
NEWS SNIPPET: Republican nominee for Pennsylvania, Doug Mastriano: “I get to appoint the secretary of the state, who’s delegated to…making corrections to elections, the voting logs & everything. I could decertify every machine in the state with a stroke of a pen…”

Greece is notorious for its tax evasion problem, so the fact that this policy is supposed to be enforced by the Greek tax authorities makes me suspect that the policy won't end up being all that tough.

There is an interesting asymmetry here, where Congressional Republican leaders are more interested in policing Democrats than in protecting Congress, and Congressional Democratic leaders feel the same way.

Genuine question: why can't Schumer and Pelosi hold a joint press conference and demand Kevin McCarthy withdraw the whip from Elise Stefanik? And be flanked, as they say it, by massive posters with Stefanik's tweets on them (as Stacey Plaskett was on the House floor)?

BREAKING: The Oklahoma legislature just passed a total ban on abortion, enforced by private citizens. This ban will take effect as soon as the governor signs the bill, making Oklahoma the first state to outlaw abortion entirely — even while Roe v. Wade still stands.

It is hard to find a worse example of US exceptionalism. In 1994, the US & France had the same traffic death rate. As of 2020, Americans were MORE THAN THREE TIMES more likely to die in traffic than French people. The comparison worsened in 2021. data.oecd.org/chart/6IwT

Let's also not forget that millions opposed the war, protested against it & were dismissed by Sensible Centrists as out to lunch—just as millions who e.g. marched for police reform have been scorned by today's Pragmatists, inc the guy who wrote this tweet. Maybe that's the lesson
An epic slip-up, but let's not forget that the Iraq War wasn't one man's error--a majority of Americans, including future Democratic Party nominees John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, favored the war in error.

looking through the Buffalo shooter's Discord logs, i just noticed that in April he made a post about how there wasn't a "problem" with "LGB" people until "pedophiles and groomers" joined and indoctrinated "our children" where could he possibly have heard this rhetoric from

Certainly the 1980s were a period of transition, but I don't know how you view the Clinton administration as anything other than the nadir of the post-New Deal alliance between organized Labor and the Dems.

Oligarchs hate people who limit their power to dominate others.
NEW: Elon Musk says he’ll vote for Republicans this year because “the Democratic Party is overly controlled by the unions and…class-action lawyers.” Musk is a notorious union-buster & was hit with a class-action lawsuit from 1k Black workers who alleged rampant racism at Tesla.

Basically: people voted for a more active government to provide things like, let’s say, regulation of financial markets. Reversing this is not feasible electorally, so a cadre of federalist society alum have recently discovered that it was all unconstitutional!
This seems like a pretty consequential decision ca5.uscourts.gov/opinions/pu…
