It’s raining today, like actually raining, not gloomy and misty, otherwise I might’ve gone off to take pics earlier. Here’s the first pic from a new mini graveyard I visited a week ago. I think the jar is a cute little companion🥃

For those who are committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, this is an important thread to read!
I'm engaging in a lot of encounters lately where people see me masked and ask "oh should I grab a mask?" And I know it comes from a good place, but it can be really exhausting. Why? Let's talk about access labor. 1/10

Access labor cannot ONLY be done by disabled people. We need you to alt text images, automatically turn on captions, host virtual/hybrid events that ENGAGE us. We need you to plan for us so we don't have to ask again and again for permission to inhabit the same space. 8/10

Every single time I have to gain the courage to say "yes please." And I am brave but it takes a LOT of courage and privilege to ask for access all the time. It also takes a lot of energy and labor. Some days I don't have it in me to ask permission for safety and security. 7/10

I am constantly asking for permission to simply get into the room. And now let's compound that with masking. I'll use my own access needs as an example here. Just to get into the office to work I have to ask for so many things. 3/10

Time and time again disabled people have to ask permission to be in the same spaces as non-disabled people. We need to ask for access to the building, we need to ask for layouts, we need to ask for captioning, we need to ask for interpreters. 2/10

Just because things are going to be different going forward doesn’t mean that everything has to be horrible. The world is not ending, but it does mean that we need to figure out how to adapt so that we can survive and thrive in this new world. 2/

To the folks who are insistent on pretending that things are totes back to normal: What you remember as “normal” is never, ever coming back. I’m sorry if no one has told you this before now, but there is simply no going back. The before times are gone forever. 1/

We are officially up to $2070/$3000, The boy insisted on a very big anniversary gift, more than 2/3 of the way there and just $230 shy of my next big goal. $grrlintersect if you would like to and are in a position to help me get the rest of the way there.
$1050/$3000 thanks to a very generous friend. Trying to lock down in preparation for the storm over the next few days and hoping we don’t get too much flooding.

At camp this summer, my son said his throat really hurt and he felt awful. Instead of giving him a COVID test, they called me & told me he was homesick but he should power through for a few days. I talked to him. He was clearly sick. I picked him up. He had a 104 fever and COVID.

The amount of abled guilt being deflected as attacks on disabled/sick people for saying anything that might make them feel uncomfortable lately is sickening. Individuals aren’t exempt from accountability just because they have a large platform or have contributed in other ways.

Thank you always, people with kids, for sharing these hilarious stories. Mini humans are So Funny, even if it’s kind of a bummer to be reminded that I no longer have access to that kind of energy, I remember it (and parents your punchlines are magnificent: PECANS🤦‍♀️🤭)
How do 2 year olds wake up at 5, run around all day, and then refuse to sleep at 8 while operating only on 13 grapes, a stack of crackers, & some soap they accidentally ate in the bath??? Every night I feel dead and my son is yelling from his crib “COME SEE HOW HIGH I CAN BOUNCE”

It was 1939 and this technology created 3D sculptures. It took decades later to duplicate this lost technology.
