This. I have been raging, recently, against the endless fact checks and lectures on media literacy.
I absolutely think we should castigate politicians for spreading fake news. But it critical we understand where these conspiracy theories come from and why they take root.
Disinformation exists, and it exists mostly to shift the blame of infrastructural decay and resource limitations from the powerful to the powerless.
You can call it "information warfare" or "information operations" if you want, but it is real.
People are dead because of it.
