Battleground district Democrat w/ nat sec credentials answers Biden presser w/ tough line on Russian aggression. =>
I received a briefing this morning from @DeptofDefense on the situation in Ukraine and, without going into the classified details, I’ll just say this: it was disturbing. 1/6

Romney told us the Senate bipartisan group is in "very early" discussions over making changes to the 1887 Electoral Count Act. He said Sen. Collins has solicited ideas from the senators and they will start to go through them in the coming days

A senior administration official, asked by reporters if a minor incursion by Russia into Ukraine would lead to a measured US response, said any move by the Russian military to acquire land in Ukraine would lead to a "severe economic response."

A) Portman: I am deeply troubled by comments from President Biden where he said a Russian invasion may just be ‘a minor incursion.’ This is the wrong way to view this threat.

If you’re closely monitoring Russia/Ukraine (and any other foreign policy matter,) you need to be reading @TomRtweets =>>
This response would offer Russia both what it wants and what it respects. Which is to say, a formal response, reflecting Moscow's great power status and a clarification of U.S. resolve. washingtonexaminer.com/opini…

This is why there is going to be a ton of clean-up attempted re POTUS’ “minor incursion” comment. Among other remarks he offered re Russian threats against Ukraine. 👇

Don’t understand logic of @POTUS suggesting he believes Russians will move into Ukraine & that if they do it in a relatively small way there would be less of a price to pay. That may well be true, but both statements weaken deterrence & weaken prospects for a diplomatic outcome.

On Ukraine, this press conference is a disaster. In the follow up question, Biden just affirmed that there will not be crippling sanctions unless it’s a full invasion. Then he acknowledged that NATO is divided on the response, after saying that Putin seeks to divide NATO.

As referenced by the astute @maggieNYT, you can check out @jeffroe's comments about 2016, during our fun game of "Hypothetical Time Machine" at the 15-minute mark of the latest episode of #InTrumpsShadow, the podcast bit.ly/3tO9Que @Ricochet =>>
Good @DavidMDrucker podcast with (recent MAL visitor) @jeffroe about Youngkin, with a dip into presidential politics. Roe said mistake he would correct in 2016 w Cruz was go on attack on Trump on issues early on, though it would have been painful and team/candidate wouldn't agree

New focus group driven piece from me about why I think the GOP’s base + burbs strategy is going to work in 2022 if Dems don’t recalibrate. Includes several ideas for how Dems can turn things around based on listening to lots of disillusioned Biden voters. thebulwark.com/the-republica…

With President Biden rounding out his first year in office amid a sinking approval rating and multiple setbacks to his agenda, the White House is planning a new communications strategy, senior administration officials say. nbcnews.to/3qBf76p

Push back from Dems in Congress is growing. White House spin on Ukraine is laughable. They are hesitating and the Russians know it.
Stop considering and start arming the Ukrainians.
