One of things I enjoy most about twitter is catching up on threads, where you've all been chatting based on something I started. It's lovely to see people I've not heard from in ages pop up in the discussion, and to just see what a lovely lot you all are ๐Ÿ’•

And so the pro Corbyn anti Starmer rhetoric begins. If you follow me for politics and you can't unite behind the Labour leader if you're a Labour voter, just as I got behind Corbyn, then don't follow me. Really, please don't.

Again on the money!
Phrase of the day, from the 16th century, is โ€˜give someone the baubleโ€™: to play them for a sucker or fool.

Susie is my hero. I suspect there will be lots more bloviation this week.
On this windy day, a reminder that to โ€˜bloviateโ€™ (19th century) is to bluster or speak at length whilst saying very little.

1 Lots of stuff around about omicron, and more learned folks than me are writing at length about it. I'm still piecing a picture together for myself, and I really do think it's way too early to be leaping ahead with any predictions

2 I'll try not to jump around too much, but there's a lot to deal with and I'll add more tomorrow. Its pretty clear from very high Ro that omicron is far more transmissible than delta, but as yet its not displaced delta as most common variant (in the UK, though I doubt elsewhere)

3 There are many rumours and conjecture along the lines of SARS-CoV-2 having combined with a more common coronavirus, and this could yield a less problematic variant. There's no real evidence for that yet so treat those reports with a modicum of scepticism until we have data

4 it is true that case reports from SA have shown milder disease than with delta, for all sorts of demographic reasons this shouldn't be extrapolated beyond that population. I'll explain why in a later tweet.

5 a final one for tonight, on an upbeat note is that GSKs antibody based therapy has been shown to be highly effective in vitro against omicron.

6 I have to now add this to most threads. Sorry. I can't answer everyone's questions by tweet or DM, I get innundated. I can't comment on your individual medical questions, always consult your doctor - also I'm a medical scientist not a clinician! Thanks for understanding.

Have been off twitter most of the day, how lovely to come back on and see my timeline largely filled with happy, wholesome and pleasant tweets! What the heck happened?!!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Sometimes a tweet is best ignored. No reply, mute, block, just ignored. Just saying.

A friend, who is a Muslim, just sent me this. I love the conversations we have around the significance of religious figures.

Haven't done a joke for a while. This one was from 2019 Edinburgh fringe, and won best one liner. I keep randomly shouting out 'Broccoli' and 'Cauliflower' - I think I might have Florets.
