This David Trimble?
Oh dear, here we go again. Yet again a senior US politician utterly misunderstanding the difference between the NIP and the GFA and the damage being done by the former to the latter. Don鈥檛 take my word for it-ask Nobel Peace Prize winner David Trimble.

The PSNI strip searched 34 children last year - some of whom were 14 or younger - and found nothing in 90% of cases.
PSNI strip searching of under-18s is 鈥渄eeply shocking鈥. Article by @Rory_TheDetail. thedetail.tv/articles/psni-s鈥

Clip from my interview with UDR:Declassified author Miche谩l Smith @foxinhisden Here Miche谩l speaks about 10 UDR N Belfast that was 'incredibly penetrated' by UVF. UVF men openly drinking at the base, weapons going missing, cash funnelled and a Shankill Butcher as a UDR member

A nasty attack on @alexhallhall, who represented the Govt's policy on Brexit when in post (if she personally opposed it, that's irrelevant for a CS), and since leaving has emerged as an insightful political commentator showing considerably more knowledge of Brexit than Gardiner.
Latest anti-Brexit propaganda from a former bureaucrat who was "Brexit Counselor" at the British Embassy in DC while opposing the policies of her own government. Her actual knowledge of Brexit issues was practically zero. One of worst appointments in British diplomatic history.

Be great if Brits like this recognised Irish democracy. There would be no N Ireland. Beat it you 馃ぁ
It would be nice if @SpeakerPelosi were to respect the territorial integrity of the United Kingdom in the same way she (rightly) does for Ukraine.

Casual reminder Jeffrey Donaldson hated the Good Friday Agreement so much he left the UUP over it and joined the DUP, who refused to sign it.
Absolutely correct. I will tell the Taoiseach tomorrow that Irish Government has a clear choice. Either uphold the core principles of Belfast/Good Friday agreement & principles of consent & consensus or support current protocol which undermines all of this. They can鈥檛 have both.

Unilateral actions on the protocol and legacy in London this week have created a crisis in the Good Friday Agreement. Those pretending this is about protecting Unionist minority rights think they are being clever. It is nothing more that British self interest and veto

So, with this logic any party has any gripe with anything just don鈥檛 turn up. Then the thing you鈥檙e griping about is undermining GFA. So when that party鈥檚 gripe is the GFA what does Mr Objective suggest then? Time to go.
Replying to @mattuthompson
Like. It should be painfully apparent to anyone who is actually observing the situation in Stormont with a modicum of objectivity, that far from preserving the stability forged by the GFA, the Protocol is actually actively undermining it.

Discussing and planning for Irish unity is not 鈥渄eliberately setting out to annoy unionists.鈥 Challenging head on the media framing of unity as something inherently divisive or annoying is important. It鈥檚 a narrative betraying a bias that must be tackled. @bbctheview

I just hope the US delegation hear some suggestions of how to fix issues around Northern Ireland and the Brexit rather than same old same old from all sides.

If you can't admit that the ultimate cause of the current problems in NI is the particular form of Brexit that was chosen (very deliberately) by the UK Government, unsurprisingly 'solutions' that are being proposed by Brexiteers do nothing to resolve the underlying difficulties

A grisly anniversary, as the state-sponsored discrimination and harassment of Irish Catholics began in NI. It would culminate in the scrapping of the discredited RUC as part of the Good Friday Agreement.
1/ Today 100 years ago, one of the most repressive pieces of legislation was enacted in the six counties. "...every avenue of making change was closed by the #SpecialPowersAct' ...making all constitutional activity illegal, there was no resort left' ...fifty years of hell began
