Ladies what's something you do for personal safety that men probably never even think of? I only stay on the second floor or higher at a hotel.

My friend and I, when we lived in NYC especially, developed what we call “Code Stephanie”. It’s something we do when we see other women either being followed on the street or harassed at bars by men. We go up to her and pretend we know her until the man goes away.

Similar thing, many times on BART cars when someone is being harassed by inserting myself between person and harasser saying "Hi, it's so good to see you, OMG I love those earrings (necklace, etc)!" Leaning in to look at said jewelery and saying hi, you seemed uncomfortable, etc.

I still do this and I have always done this since college. I will pretend to know any woman in a weird sitch.

Last wkend outside of a club I got "the look" so I became someone's "husband". Drunk guy got turned down 3x, & it *still* took me stepping in front of the woman and telling him "you need to leave now" before he relented. WTF is wrong w men? /1

/2 It shouldn't take a man to tell another man that a woman isn't interested...but...here we are. I towered over the guy too, so I can imagine he wouldn't have given up if I was her size. At least she got home safe.

My friends knew if I told a guy my code name, I wanted assistance. Ironically my code name was, "Karen." 😄

I didn't know this was called code Stephanie, but I have done this when I see women harassed. I walk right up to them and I say how good it is to see them again and ask how have they been and how's their mother. It's the element of surprise for the harrasser and never fails.

Love it! I hope any woman I know would have another do likewise and help keep her safe.
