Happy #UNDay to all colleagues around the world! @WHO echoes the @UN Secretary-General's call for solidarity, equity, respect for human rights and peace - all these are prerequisites for health, #VaccinEquity and ending the #COVID19 pandemic. Together!
The values that have powered the @UN for the last 76 years — peace, development, human rights, and opportunity for all — have no expiration date. As we mark #UNDay, let’s unite behind these ideals, and live up to the full promise, potential and hope of the United Nations.

So glad @DiarmidCL arrived safely in London 🇬🇧, after biking for a week, carrying @WHO’s #ClimateAction report & a letter from health professionals. Thanks for joining the #RideForTheirLives on behalf of WHO! I hope leaders at #COP26 take needed action to protect our children!

The wild poliovirus is at its lowest level in history. Only two cases have been reported so far this year in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Thanks, @Rotary, for everything you've done to #EndPolio. You have my deep respect and gratitude. Happy #WorldPolioDay!

Thanks to @Rotary, other partners and numerous #healthworkers, more than 19 million people are walking today, who would otherwise have been paralysed. More than 1.5 million children’s lives have been saved. #WorldPolioDay #EndPolio
It's #WorldPolioDay! 5⃣ of the 6⃣ WHO regions – representing over 9⃣0⃣% of the 🌎🌍🌏 population – are certified free of wild polio. Join us in celebrating the progress we have made, & the work we must do to #EndPolio everywhere. 👉 bit.ly/2ZcYsuI

But it's not the time for complacency. #Polio will come roaring back, if we allow it to. The instability in Afghanistan threatens to undermine the gains we have made. @WHO & partners are ready to begin a country-wide house-to-house vaccination campaign.
📣NEWS: House-to-house #polio vaccination to resume across Afghanistan from 8 November. For the 1st time in more than 3⃣ years, all children will be reached for vaccination, including 3.3 million+ children who have previously remained inaccessible to vaccination campaigns.

The last mile is the hardest mile. On #WorldPolioDay, we call on all partners to stay the course in their efforts and commitment to #EndPolio. Together we can make polio history.
Replying to @WHO
It's #WorldPolioDay Polio cases are down 99.9% since 1988, but the #COVID19 pandemic has set back vaccinations and placed this incredible progress at risk. Let's strengthen our efforts to #EndPolio and ensure that progress against this virus is not lost.

More vaccines donated than any other country.
The U.S. has delivered more than 200 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to over 100 countries — more doses than any other country in the world. We know that this pandemic will not end anywhere unless it's defeated everywhere, and we will not stop until we get the job done.

Welcoming a baby into the world should be a time of great joy, but for the thousands of parents who lose their baby, it is unbearably sad. Dear @TulipMazumdar, I admire your strength to share your experience & to advocate for the importance of quality care in such moments.

I had a very constructive meeting with @State_IO Erica Barks Ruggles about #COVID19. I thanked her for 🇺🇸's leadership in sharing vaccine doses. We hope other @g20org leaders will build on this & ensure all countries have enough supply to reach 40% coverage by the end of 2021.

#COVID19 has highlighted why we can only improve the health of the 🌍’s people if we address the underlying inequities that put them at greater risk of disease, and of worse health outcomes. This is exactly what the Rio Declaration called for 10 years ago. who.int/publications/m/item/…

The #ClimateCrisis is upon us, powered by our addiction to fossil fuels, with real & devastating consequences for health, particularly for the most disadvantaged. The 2021 @LancetCountdown report documents in detail this destruction & the inequities that it causes.
The impact of climate change on health is getting worse & it is exacerbating existing health & social inequities. The 2021 Lancet Countdown Report gives a code red for the health of people in every region of the world. Read the full report thelancet.com/journals/lance… #LancetClimate21
