This will go down in history as one of science and medical research's greatest achievements. Perhaps the most impressive.
I put together a preliminary timeline of some key milestones to show how several years of work were compressed into months.
In the United States, 136,000 new confirmed cases today brings the 7-day average >100,000. Real number is esitmated to be ~700,000. And >500 more people hospitalized. No reason for concern, right @CDCgov?

The "Delta" (L452R) mutation found in both the BA.2.12.1 and BA.4/BA.5 variants is key to both immune escape and enhanced cell fusion (not present in BA.1 or BA.2). And people with prior Delta infections have better neutralization to these variants biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

and after booster vaccination"

"Our results demonstrate that use of live-attenuated
[nasal] vaccines may offer advantages over available COVID-19 vaccines, specifically when applied as
booster, and may provide a solution for containment of the COVID-19 pandemic."

"The problem we have is this illusion or deception that the pandemic is over, when, in fact, these variants that we're seeing are coming at a much faster clip. There's an accelerated evolution of the virus," @EricTopol tells @WmBrangham. to.pbs.org/3Pqqokn
It's really striking how well trained scent dogs can detect Covid (and #LongCovid): a randomized controlled, triple-blinded validation trial and real life study at in airport. They need to get retrained for diff't variants globalhealth.bmj.com/lookup/…@GlobalHealthBMJ@HelsinkiUniMed
