For decades, the #Rohingya people have suffered discrimination, violence and exile. To help them preserve heritage, identity and links to the homeland a cultural memory centre has been created in the Kutupalong refugee camp. Thank you @UNmigration for this important project.

Today was spent with Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh: I am grateful to the government and its UN and NGO partners for the big relief efforts; mindful of the refugees’ wish to return to Myanmar if their rights and security are assured; and hopeful that donors will stay engaged.

Glad to be invited by @JosepBorrellF to the EU development ministers’ meeting. We agreed that as we focus on the consequences of the Ukraine war we must continue to tackle all humanitarian crises and development challenges. This is not the time for global aid levels to decrease.

Giving asylum and granting protection to people fleeing from persecution due to sexual orientation or gender identity saves lives. UNHCR is proud to partner with organizations supporting #LGBTIQ+ people, especially those who are forcibly displaced or stateless. #IDAHOTB

At a @Stadt_Wien centre, well managed by @trainofhope volunteers, I heard stories from refugees just arrived from Ukraine. Many told me that indiscriminate shelling had destroyed all they had. All said they wanted to return as soon as war ends. That is why, also, war must end.

This week, the @UN leadership met in person in Vienna — a timely opportunity, given the size, gravity and urgency of global challenges: climate, COVID, inequalities, wars; and with @antonioguterres’ “Our Common Agenda” providing vision and direction for the future.

40 years after the start of the #AIDS pandemic, #HIV continues to affect millions, especially in poor, marginalized contexts. UNHCR, with fellow @UNAIDS co-sponsors, advocates for the rights, and helps meet the needs of displaced people at risk of infection. @Winnie_Byanyima

European support to the victims of war in Ukraine has been remarkable, especially its unified, generous response to the refugee crisis. May the same unity and generosity drive Europe’s responses to crises everywhere, in solidarity with all those who suffer and flee. #EuropeDay

Grateful for invitation to speak at donor conference for Ukraine🇺🇦 called by @MorawieckiM 🇵🇱 and @SwedishPM 🇸🇪. I stressed priorities for displaced/refugees: cash programmes, shelter and accommodation, protection of the vulnerable, and planning for eventual return and solutions.

On #EidAlFitr let us celebrate Muslim philanthropy. Thousands of Muslim organizations — and millions of individuals — every day relieve the suffering of people in need by giving and sharing. They are champions of solidarity in our fractured, difficult world. #EidMubarak

We spent the day in Cameroon’s Far North with the displaced people from Logone and Chari. The climate emergency has complicated inter-communal relations and caused, at times, violent conflict. The @UN and #UNHCR encourage and support the government’s efforts to restore peace.
