In 2014 there was just one person on the Civil Service Care Leaver internship. Now there have been over 800 all across Government. It was a real joy to meet these brilliant women. Find out more here👉🏾 civil-service-careers.gov.uk…

I am very grateful to head teachers for all their work to keep our schools open and to minimise the impact of strike action today. Over 90% of schools were open - you can see our breakdown of data here 👇 1/2 educationhub.blog.gov.uk/202…

One school closure is too many, and it remains deeply disappointing that the NEU proceeded with this disruptive action. But many teachers, head teachers and support staff have shown that children’s education and wellbeing must always come first. 2/2

Tomorrow, some teachers who are members of the NEU teaching union plan to go on strike. I don’t want any schools to close, but where that can't be avoided, we're working hard to minimise the impact of strike action on children. My message to parents 👇 1/2

I know parents and carers are concerned about the disruption. Our guidance asks school leaders to prioritise vulnerable children, children of key workers and those in exam years. Here's everything parents need to know about upcoming strike action: ow.ly/ABpj50MFsfB 2/2

I am disappointed the NEU is taking action despite our continued engagement. I’ve written to teacher unions calling on them to ask their members to inform schools if they intend to go on strike (1/3)

Not informing school leaders means our head teachers will be less able to minimise disruption to children’s learning. I hope union members will help us keep our schools open. (2/3)

We have set out guidance asking school leaders to keep as many children in school as possible, prioritising the key cohorts including our most vulnerable children. (3/3)

As the Holocaust begins to fade from living memory, we must do all we can to make sure the stories of survivors and those who were lost, live on. Thank you to @halfon4harlowMP and countless others who champion Holocaust education year-round. #HolocaustMemorialDay.

Signing the @HolocaustUK Book of Commitment and reflecting on how hatred and intolerance led to the horrors of the Holocaust and the role of ordinary people. The significance of the Holocaust must continue to be reflected as part of our national curriculum.

I'm delighted that the first defibrillators are being delivered to schools – with all schools having one by the end of the academic year. This is a huge step in preventing future tragedies and my thanks go to @theOKfoundation for their campaigning that got us here.
Life-saving defibrillators are being placed in every school after a 10 year campaign by the father of Oliver King, a 12 year old who died from an undetected heart condition. On #BBCBreakfast Schools Minister Nick Gibb paid tribute to the work of Mark King and @theOKFoundation

The delivery of defibrillators to schools across the country has started, with all schools expected to have access to one by the end of this academic year. These devices increase the chance of survival from a cardiac arrest and will help keep schools and local communities safe.

Great profile of @GillianKeegan .We grew up on neighbouring council estates with similar experiences - a Huyton girl & a Netherley girl coming of age in Liverpool in the 80s. Laughed my head off at descriptions of school & nightlife - that’s 💯how it was bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001h3…

We awarded teachers the highest pay rise in 30 years, and we've already met the unions’ request for an additional £2bn in school funding, which will take real terms spending on schools to its highest level in history. Talks with union leaders will continue this week. 2/2
