I’m excited to see that @POTUS has nominated former Hawaiʻi resident Nani Coloretti as Deputy Director for the Office of Management and Budget. If confirmed by the Senate, Coloretti would be one of the highest ranking AAPI serving in government.
Congratulations to HACCamino for taking home the top prize of Hawaiʻi’s Annual Code Challenge! The hackathon-inspired competition is designed to encourage students and community members to come up with concepts/tech to modernize state services.
HACCamino came up with a proof-of-concept for developing an app to streamline data collection for marine animal sightings and reduce reporting errors. Congratulations once again to all the winners and participants in this year’s competition!

Over the weekend we reached a sad milestone: Over 1,000 people in Hawaiʻi have died of COVID-19. They were family members, friends, neighbors and colleagues. We mourn all the lives cut too short by this pandemic.
News from @dlnr: The first non-chemical sunscreen dispenser is now available for use at Hapuna Bay State Recreation Area – a site previously identified with coral reef damage. Chemical-free sunscreen has been shown to slow bleaching and other diseases to our reefs.
