"The current generation"
While the VMF calls the Gremyashchiy-class as corvettes, NATO designates them as frigates (FFG).
Which is somewhat justified when looking at them together like this and what tools does the corvette have. But mission wise, they are different.
The Pacific Fleet flagship, Slava-class cruiser Varyag, is now at one of Dalzavod's dockyards for its scheduled maintenance.
No official estimates on how long the maintenance would take and what the scope of the maintenance is.
Compared to the Northern Fleet which has been getting a constant stream of major ship projects like the Adm. Gorshkov-class frigates (two in active service), the Pacific is given priority when it comes to corvettes, and Soviet-era ship modernization. 1/n
Russia is modernizing its Pacific Fleet, prioritizing conventional subs, corvettes and frigates. It's not a blue water force. Yet it would come in handy to support PLAN's operations in Northwest Pacific, if a Russia-China military alliance materializes.
While yes, a corvette and a modernized Soviet-era destroyer turned frigate isn't as glamorous as a newbuilt frigate. It is however fine for their what the current situation is, where they play second fiddle to the Northern Fleet in seagoing and ocean-going assets.
Better to have atleast a modernized conventional green water fleet first than go full boar on blue water fleet component when the former is in shambles.
In the context of a RU-CN alliance of sorts, they would mostly handle ASW tasks. As new assets are leaning towards it.
The recent use of water cannons against our two resupply boats in the Ayungin Shoal is an affront to the Filipino people. I have told the Chinese Ambassador that they cannot prevent us from doing what we have to do within Ayungin Shoal, an area where we have sovereign rights.
Not bad: first ever Russia+ASEAN naval exercise this December (01-03.12.2021), Indonesian territorial waters to the North of Sumatra. Adm.Panteleyev from the Russian side, safety of commercial activities and navigation as a focus, virtual and real parts.
Project 1155 - class large anti-submarine ship "Admiral Panteleev" was spotted passing through Tsushima Strait last Thursday, November 18.
He would be the one escorting the five-ship task group that left the Port of Manila on the same day after staying for three days.
Project 22800 Tsiklon ("Cyclone") at Novorossiysk Naval Base.
The ship is slated to be commissioned into the Black Sea Fleet by this year under the 166th Novorossiysk Small Missile Ship Division of the 41st Missile Boat Brigade.
