Today, @HouseForeign passed my resolution calling for an end to violence in northern Mozambique. The international community needs to work with the Government of Mozambique to address the drivers of conflict and restore security in a manner that respects human rights.

CM @RepGregoryMeeks: Congress can't stand idly by when a thuggish military blatantly disregards the will of citizens as happened in Burma in Feb. We must support the Burmese people in their struggle for human rights & democracy. That's why @HouseForeign passed the #BURMAAct today

I left this meeting with Chairman @RepGregoryMeeks with optimism and hope. We shared the same outlook that democracies need to focus on economic security as well as human security. That is how we prove ourselves way better than authoritarian regimes and #DefendDemocracy.

CM @RepGregoryMeeks: Thrilled and proud to see the U.S. reach this milestone in donating and delivering 200m COVID-19 vaccines to 100+ countries around the world - with more to come! Until everyone has access to vaccines, we will not be able to fully defeat COVID-19.
Replying to @PowerUSAID

It's my obligation as Chair to ensure US foreign policy remains true to our national interests & democratic values. I support US allies & partners pursuing their security needs & our shared strategic interests, but doing so cannot come at the cost of violating basic human rights.

The SAFEGUARD Act of 2021 will prohibit arms sales to countries committing genocide or war crimes and increase oversight of arms & defense services exports to ensure the protection of human rights and regular Inspector General reviews of how such standards are applied.
