.@ImogenDempsey39 from Clinically Vulnerable Families UK spoke about the isolating experience that clinically vulnerable people are suffering:'Many of our group members are being asked to return to work... & it's kind of a grim choice between earning & trying to preserve health'

The tragic irony is that the notion that Omicron is less serious is true only if you are vaccinated.
If it stops people getting vaccinated (and vaccination take up is now stalling for young and old alike) then it makes Omicron more serious.

Poor ventilation does not only increase risk of infection but also decreases cognitive performance.
In so many ways, improving ventilation is a no-brainer!

What does it say about us as a society that consistently, wave after wave, we have abandoned the vulnerable and disabled such that, although forming 17% of the population, they have suffered 60% of Covid deaths.
THREAD on the NHS crisis that doesn't seem to be in the news...
The latest Omicron Covid wave is on the wane but hospitals remain severely overstretched - by over 2 yrs of Covid & over a decade of underfunding.
Things are not good if you are sick - some charts 1/9
Matt Hancock claims suppressing the virus until we could vaccinate was the right strategy.
He's not wrong.
It's just a huge shame that that's not actually what we did.
We lost tens of thousands of lives as a result of their failed policies.
Lara Wong, from Clinically Vulnerable Families:
“Vulnerable people have effectively been excluded from public spaces over two years now due to a lack of safety protections. We welcome this Pledge, which we see as an essential first step to restore our confidence and our freedoms”
🛡️We won't leave workers abandoned without protection.
🤝Alongside @IndependentSage & partners, we have launched the #COVID19SafetyPledge.
✍️We need employers to stand by their workforce, sign the pledge & make their workplace #COVID19 safe.

The @ONS Covid-19 latest insights.
Overall, good news, however we are still at around 1,000 deaths involving Covid per week.

Good news is that across UK we are back to levels of covid infection that we've not since before Omicron (ie late November). (~2% - 3% ish)
Bad news is that is still high - just nowhere near as high as it was!
NB cases in schoolkids look like they've stopped dropping.
We’ve published the latest data from our #COVID19 Infection Survey.
#COVID19 infection rates continued to decrease across the UK in the latest week ow.ly/lWZf50J7iva
"A trade union has written to every politician representing the Scottish Borders to highlight "dangerous staffing levels" in local hospitals."
This is not just a pandemic-induced issue, but a chronic long-term underfunding-induced issue.

When scientists/lobby groups label the act of employers pledging safe environments for their customers as 'concerning', it's clear their positions were always ideological - and not in the interest of public health.
Terms of Reference for the UK's COVID-19 Inquiry will be improved if the Gov accepts its Chair's recommendations. One of the issues raised by @IndependentSage and others was the role of experts and advisers within the Gov’s decision-making and an improvement is recommended 1/2
