The tragic irony is that the notion that Omicron is less serious is true only if you are vaccinated.
If it stops people getting vaccinated (and vaccination take up is now stalling for young and old alike) then it makes Omicron more serious.

Matt Hancock claims suppressing the virus until we could vaccinate was the right strategy.
He's not wrong.
It's just a huge shame that that's not actually what we did.

Good news is that across UK we are back to levels of covid infection that we've not since before Omicron (ie late November). (~2% - 3% ish)
Bad news is that is still high - just nowhere near as high as it was!
NB cases in schoolkids look like they've stopped dropping.
