Sombre occasion today as we marked the Centenary of the Ulster Memorial Tower at Thiepval. The Tower was the first major memorial erected at Somme battlefield site & commemorates the thousands of Ulster soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. We will remember them.

Good to see elected representatives from different unionist parties at that event! So important for unionism to collectively remember and reflect on these occasions. Very powerful.

''Sacrificed their lives for our freedom''... Remember that!! They didn't die so stormont could vote us straight back into the early 1900's, having to show papers to go anywhere. Time to veto!!

What's so sickening is that only 70 years after the famine, young Irish men were persuaded to go out & fight & die for the very empire that that had caused the famine. The only legitimate response has to be SHAME. Shame on all those leaders then, & now who glorify such slaughter
