Kyrsten Sinema just voted with Manchin and the GOP to block filibuster reform and defeat legislation to protect voting rights and save democracy. She chose the side of Bull Connor and George Wallace over that of John Lewis and MLK. And she must never be elected to office again.

It’s astounding how predictably @Sen_JoeManchin fell for the bait McConnell dangled out there. A “bipartisan” gang on a bill that will do nothing to secure the vote for millions of Americans. He’ll learn soon enough what that’s worth.
Manchin, leaving the Capitol, says working with the bipartisan group on reforming the ECA & other measures is what he’s focused on now. “It’s a good win here, I mean my goodness, that’s what caused the insurrection. That’s exactly what we should be doing.”

Okay, Politico, so what happened to all the Democratic senators who "secretly" opposed the filibuster reform and would join Manchinema when it came down to it? You're soooo in the know.

Despite tonight's vote, we cannot turn away. This will not be the last opportunity we get to fight for voting rights. We will meet the moment again, to try again. And again. Until we succeed.

An apt analogy if you discount what courage means.
Today was Kyrsten Sinema's Profiles in Courage moment. She broke with her party to cast a vote that may doom her political career. The question is whether she'll end up recorded in history like John Quincy Adams or Edmund Ross nymag.com/intelligencer/2022…

The first one there to shake Kyrsten Sinema's hand is John Kennedy, one of the 8 GOP senators who voted to overturn Biden's election victory.

Holy shit: Mitch McConnell: "African-American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as American voters." Toni Morrison: "In this country, American means white. Everybody else has to hyphenate."

Stop calling @Sen_JoeManchin and @SenatorSinema “centrists.” A moderate/centrist does not join with anti-democratic forces to reject efforts to protect the Constitutional right to vote in a legitimate #Democracy!! They have betrayed their constituents and all Americans!!
Senate Democrats failed in a Wednesday night bid to weaken the filibuster to pass elections and voting reform thanks to opposition from centrists Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. politico.com/news/2022/01/19…

Just days after MLK Day, 52 Senators chose the Jim Crow filibuster over democracy and our sacred right to vote. What a damning commentary on the state of our union. The people won't forget and this fight is not over.

And @HRC needs to issue a statement. Waiting on several national orgs to do so.
The noise you hear is the complete, total collapse of Kyrsten Sinema's political career.

Anyone who uses the both sides argument like this after the insurrection, as democracy is imperiled, is a fraud.
Romney on Biden's 'illegitimate' election comment: "It's the same path that Donald Trump went down, which is attempting to delegitimize an election, which in my opinion, is a unfortunate and potentially dangerous course to take for the leader of democracy."

I am so ashamed to have worked for @kyrstensinema. I had considered her to be, not only my former boss, but a friend that I could count on. That's all gone. I have no idea what happened, but she's not there anymore. The vote she just took is devastating and dangerous. Period.

Sinema staffers. Your boss is going down in flames of historic infamy & political debacle. But perhaps she is not now the Senator you once hoped she was. You can still recover your own moral dignity and political future. Resign. Do it publicly. And join the right side of history.

The legacy of Jim Crow is alive and well in 2022. That’s all I have to say right now about Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, and Senate Republicans.

That’s a lovely message to people who got @kyrstensinema elected, huh? Those people she just betrayed “Have a nice night.” She’s going to find out soon enough how much a handshake from McConnell is worth.
Asked Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, as she left the floor after casting her vote against changing the Senate rules, what she thinks the next steps on voting rights are. “Have a nice night,” she said.

Great use of the passive voice so readers don’t know that it was Republicans — every single one of them — who blocked votings rights.

For anyone who wants the clip. Here it is. Minority Leader McConnell says the quiet part out loud.
Asked @LeaderMcConnell about concerns voters of color have about voting rights. “The concern is misplaced,” said McConnell, “because if you look at the statistics, African-American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans."
