Hi y'all. Twitter tweetering on the verge of collapse pushed me over the edge, and on the substack. Promise not to become a substack bro and just be the same person but more thoughtful. Would be honored if you joined me, and would understand if you didn't. open.substack.com/pub/newmea…

Wait. They have to prove they're mature enough to get an abortion... and if they're immature they have to become a parent?
Some teenagers must prove to a judge that they’re “mature” enough to end their pregnancy. For @propublica and @NYTmag, I wrote about G, whose abortion was denied by a judge — and what forced motherhood has meant for her. nytimes.com/2022/11/29/magaz…

I know we won’t defeat conservatives with facts and logic, we have to organize. But I also hope some folks sitting in the middle realize the backwards world the right is leading us towards if we don’t change things swiftly and decisively

Ella Baker’s democratic pedagogy and radical democratic vision emphasized the importance of tapping oppressed communities knowledge, strength and leadership in constructing models for social change. Something we can all learn from.
Replying to @SNCCLegacy
Influenced by Ella Baker and community leaders, the young people in SNCC made decisions by consensus, helped develop leadership skills in others, and challenged hierarchies that privileged wealth and education.

No Joe, you’re supposed to help the railroad workers… you got it backwards. A handful of sick days c’mon! Workers of the world unite!
Joseph, while you’re fixing things with the railroad…get them to pass The Equality Act affording civil rights to the LGBTQ community. And extend the child tax credit. How bout the 35$ cap on insulin … all’s I’m saying, a few things already passed in the house. C’mon buddy

do you know what really effectively reduces the number of people experiencing houselessness and mental health crises? consensual, quality and free/affordable healthcare access and infrastucture, universal basic income and infrastructure and meaningful investments in housing.

Really insidious framing to say “a rail strike would shut down the economy, so we have to force the existing deal through” When they could just as easily say “a rail strike would shut down the economy, so we’re going to make sure rail workers get more than ZERO sick days”

On the one hand I’m not surprised, on the other I’m wondering if Dems see how republicans are taking this opening and outflanking them. And ultimately, the decision lies with the workers. If they strike, we support them. Follow @railroadworkers for more.

Bottom line right here:
Replying to @AOC
I work 6 days a week, 311 days a year. If I work into my off day when I get up, I may be lucky to have 14 hours to myself. I come home at all hours of the day or night and sometimes have to eat in the dark, so I don’t wake my family. Railroaders just want a better quality of life
