OK, so I know the last thing anyone wants to hear is more commentary on this $TWTR buy-out, but no one seems to be talking about why this is probably a bad deal for both $TWTR investors and Musk Buckle up...

A constant march towards a Christian ethno-state...
Last Tuesday: 6-3 #SCOTUS ruling in Carson makes it *much harder* for states to decline to fund religious schools. Today: 6-3 ruling in Kennedy makes it *much harder* for public schools to keep religious practice out of extracurriculars. Even with Dobbs/Bruen, these are *big.*

Here's Judge Milan Smith (appointed by President George W. Bush) concurring in the Ninth Circuit's denial of rehearing en banc in the Kennedy case — on the "deceitful narrative" of the dispute that gave rise to today's #SCOTUS decision: cases.justia.com/federal/app…

In Kennedy v Bremerton, it seems notable that the majority and the dissent aren’t able to agree on the facts before them. To the majority, Kennedy was praying quietly during semi-private time; to the dissent, he was causing a disruption to school events. supremecourt.gov/opinions/21…

Majority: "Mr. Kennedy prayed during a period when school employees were free to speak with a friend, call for a reservation at a restaurant, check email, or attend to other personal matters. He offered his prayers quietly while his students were otherwise occupied." Dissent:

The same folks saying, “don’t have sex and you won’t get pregnant,” believe in a religion based upon the idea that a woman didn’t have sex and got pregnant.

I know this sounds like hysteria but a sitting senator tried to help steal a federal election and then lied about it and he should probably be in jail.
I’d missed that Ron Johnson admitted he “coordinated” with a WI attorney to pass false records to the Vice President right before the joint session. Stands to reason he also instructed his chief of staff to get in touch with Pence’s people to set it up. jsonline.com/story/news/poli…

This argument that post-Dobbs GOP states will provide gov't services is dumb, but here's why -- providing these services was a legal way to reduce abortion demand pre-Dobbs, yet none of the pro-life legislators bothered then. They certainly won't care now...
They didn't do this when it would have been, in theory, an available way to reduce legal abortions, why would they turn around and do it now?

Gonna wager this was an unexpected twist...
Marist poll has Dems +7 on the generic ballot. That's the biggest Dem margin in any 2022 poll. The story notes GOP was +3 in April. Some suggesting a Roe effect -- a 10-point shift! But Marist also showed Dems +5 in May, +5 in Nov. and +8 in Sept. Has been a good poll for Dems.

This misrepresentation from Gorsuch on behalf of SCOTUS is super messed up. Gorsuch makes it sound like, this was a personal thing, when in reality the guy was leading a prayer sessions at midfield!
Replying to @steve_vladeck
And speaking of sketchy, the way the majority portrays the actual facts in this case (to try to downplay the coercion issue) is so problematic that Justice Sotomayor has to include pictures in her dissent to show readers what *really* happened here:

And just to be 100% clear, that doesn't even touch on the real context here, where the coach (assistant coach) turned heel and went on a media blitz stirring vitriol to the point where the head coach was getting death threats... npr.org/2022/04/25/109311661…

In deposition, the Head Football coach said Kennedy was a distraction to the team and noted was disappointed that the circus Kennedy created ruined the football season for the players.
Two things: 1) Rhetoric matters, making good arguments works with voters, pound these points over and over 2) This is why we cannot engage on weak rhetoric, like defund, trans, etc. We can support them, we can't build a movement around them. The country isn't ready for that.
Any Democrat running for Congress needs to be pressing this question every chance they get. nytimes.com/2022/06/06/opini…

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that we’re seeing a ton of anti-Semitism in responses to those criticizing Dobbs.

Of course this clown was lying the whole time. He's a coward and a lout, and has been from the start.

The idea that Mississippi and Alabama are TOTALLY going to enact generous welfare states now that they can force women to carry pregnancies to term is so utterly divorced from reality you wonder if Douthat is really trying to convince himself rather than any of his readers
Douthat's prediction is delusional. There is a very high correlation between states that now ban abortion and states with the highest maternal and infant mortality rates. These states had plenty of time to pass pro-parent, pro-child policies. They refused. nytimes.com/2022/06/25/opini…

The “school choice” messaging is eerily deceptive. Just look at this. “Fund students instead of systems.” It doesn’t even fucking make sense. But it sounds nice. I really hate how much of politics is just fucking marketing
BREAKING: Arizona Senate just passed a bill to fund students instead of systems. This will be the most expansive school choice initiative in the nation. All families will be able to take their children's education dollars to the education providers of their choosing.
