🧵We've just met with tens of thousands of members in England on Zoom about a pay offer from the Government. We are beginning a consultation but are recommending our members REJECT this offer. It’s just not good enough.

Teachers know that SATs scores don’t show all the skills and attributes they teach their children. It’s time to stop using Government tests as a shorthand for primary school standards. Read @MoreThanScore's report here 👉 bit.ly/40ETTEg

Well, this is awkward for @educationgovuk and @GillianKeegan 😬 #VoteReject
Great question, Pepe. We would still be above the OECD average!

New research by @MoreThanScore has found neither parents nor teachers think Year 6 SATs scores are a good indication of high standards in primary school. Read the report 👉 bit.ly/3JXnUbr

🧵"@GillianKeegan is out of touch with teachers, support staff and school leaders, and the pressures they are under. We know that members find this pay offer insulting, and it is surprising that such widespread condemnation has not registered with her.

"Our members have lived through price rises which has also left a gap in school finances. It is not good enough to tell heads there is enough money in the system." - @cyclingkev on the Education Secretary's latest email to school leaders. #SaveOurSchools Read our full comment.👇

Government’s new offer is an insult and not fully funded. Most schools will have to pay for rises from already overstretched budgets. That’s why we are recommending our members #VoteReject. Vote here. 👉 neuactivate.com

What do good standards in primary education mean? Teachers & parents know that good standards are so much more than SATs. Educational standards should be measured in better ways, like with a broad and rich curriculum. Watch this latest video from @MoreThanScore here 👇

’Who did the Education Secretary sound like she was on the side of? It wasn’t particularly the teachers or parents…’ @GillianKeegan is not fooling anyone with her false assurances to parents that they don’t need to worry about school funding. #SaveOurSchools
The education secretary didn't sound like she was on the side of unions, teachers, or parents when talking to @SophyRidgeSky; instead, she opted for a "spreadsheet first treasury approach", says @SamCoatesSky as he shares his analysis #Ridge trib.al/dwvcRFT 📺 Sky 501

Teachers have suffered a 23% pay cut since 2010. The Government pay offer means another two years of real terms pay cuts. You deserve better. That’s why we are asking members to #VoteReject. Vote here.👉 neuactivate.com #SaveOurSchools

Read the room @GillianKeegan. Teachers are walking out on your talk because you’re not listening to them on how low pay has contributed to a recruitment and retention crisis. We’re voting to reject your insulting pay offer so we’ll need a new one - it’s time to #SaveOurSchools
Teachers done mess around! Massive walk out when #gilliankeegan came on😳

Thank you @SadiqKhan for taking these steps to ensure children have the essentials they need to grow and thrive - both during the school day, and over the holidays.
We’ve already announced funding for free school meals for primary school children in London. Now we're going even further. I’m funding emergency free holiday meals for Londoners in need - 10 million meals in partnership with @mayorsfund & @felixprojectuk.

It’s clear that the current means-tested system of free school meal eligibility coupled with the Govt’s cost of living crisis is squeezing family budgets and increasing food insecurity and child hunger. All children deserve a hot, healthy meal each day to be able to learn.
Scotland and Wales are expanding universal primary free school meals. London is piloting them from September. Parliament debated a bill for them last week. So free school meals are definitely back on the table. Our new @TheIFS research summarises what we know:

👏 Well done @MayorofLondon @SadiqKhan for funding around 10 million meals to families on low incomes -starting during the Easter school holidays! We now need central Govt to step up and end the postcode lottery of access to this vital nutritional safety net outside of #London
