As extremists continue to drive the GOP’s anti-American, anti-climate and anti-community energy agenda—they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel on so-called energy experts. Watch here ⬇️

Digital identity tools ensure that an individual is who they say they are. It's essential that Login.gov provides ID verification tools that can secure privacy and combat fraud. WATCH Commissioner Hashmi describe how Login.gov is working to do so:

The federal government must ensure that equity is baked into their identity proofing services–and that all qualifying individuals can get the help and services they need.  @RepSummerLee is right: Equity must be a core value of digital identification.

Last year, Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act to fight for climate justice and energy independence.  Republicans? They’re working to pass H.R.1, Big Oil’s wishlist, which puts Polluters Over People.

Isn’t it ironic that @GOPOversight held a hearing to discuss inflation while they work to protect the fossil fuel corporations responsible for the price increases that caused it?  While the American people needed relief at the pump, Big Oil was making record profits.

Inflation is a complex global phenomenon caused by a pandemic and Russia’s war on Ukraine–not the Biden-Harris Administration’s climate-conscious energy policies.  In fact, inflation in the U.S. is lower than in the UK, Canada, and 20 other EU countries🌎 moodysanalytics.com/-/media/…

Today’s @GOPoversight hearing is another effort to promote Big Oil policies, defend America’s reliance on fossil fuels, and blame Democrats for a pandemic and war-induced global phenomenon. WATCH RM @RepCori deliver her opening statement:

Republicans’ interference in D.C.’s affairs is a choice—NOT a constitutional duty to oversee the will of D.C. residents. In reality, it’s about using D.C. to score political points. @HouseGOP: end this charade. Let D.C. residents govern themselves.
Republicans legislate on local D.C. matters only when they think they can score political points but have no town hall meetings in Washington and do not interact with the local political community. Yet, Republicans claim it is their “constitutional duty” to legislate for D.C.

Yes, @RepShontelBrown! “Congressional interference in DC’s local affairs is not a duty, it’s a choice – and a bad one.” #HandsOffDC

D.C. is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being overwhelmingly funded by the federal govt. In fact, D.C. receives less federal funding than any U.S. state, including the Chairman’s home state of Kentucky.  It’s past time for Republicans to recognize that D.C. has the resources to be a state.

GOP vilification of DC is standard fare in statehood struggles. It was said Utah was too Mormon, New Mexico too Catholic, Hawaii and Alaska too far, and most states were accused of being filled with criminals. But the logic of democracy prevails in the end.

🗳️ In 2022, D.C. Council Chairman Mendelson won 84% of the D.C. vote.  Chairman Comer won 0% of the D.C. vote.  Republicans’ belief that the more than 700,000 residents of D.C. are incapable of self-government is not only false but antidemocratic.

In Texas, statewide Republican officials focus on bashing cities instead of helping people across the state. Now in Congress, Republicans are spending their days bashing the residents of Washington D.C., all to distract from serving the American people. @OversightDems

Here is a reminder that D.C. residents: ✅ Support #DCstatehood ✅ Pay the highest federal taxes per capita ✅ Have no voting representation in Congress Today’s hearing is an affront to the rights of political democracy and self-determination.

This hearing should either be addressing the nationwide gun violence crisis, most recently manifested in the school shooting in Nashville on Monday which took the lives of three adults and three children, or it should be to advance D.C. statehood.

Ranking Member @RepRaskin has made it clear: Anything else is just using one problem (criminal violence) to block the solution of another (disenfranchisement and non-representation for the people of Washington).
