Because having a foreign monarch is a holdover from when Australia was a colony, and saw itself as Britain in the South Seas.
We are no longer a colony, are proud to be diverse, here for 65,000 years, and we know we're not British.
So having foreign monarch no longer fits.

All I know is, yesterday at Marrickville Town Hall there were several people putting action into the “courage of their convictions” standing in the rain handing out HTV cards. Even though I only voted for one colour I was so proud of the country we live in and it’s many freedoms

Wow! That indeed looks crazy. What is the issue with the Lilley candidate? And is he the incumbent or the pretender to the throne?
My Brisbane pre-poll. Crazy sign-a-rama. Note sign on right re LNP Lilley candidate being referred to AFP. He wasn't there. Line up was long in foyer & entrance. I joked with the AEC guy it snaked like the Brisbane River. Had to because no room outside due to signs 🤔
