These initiatives have a lot more to do with quokka-tourism than addressing the reality faced by WA's native forests, woodlands and low-lying native vegetation. Vegetation underpins our ecosystems, provides habitat and can even mitigate climate change through carbon storage.
In last fortnight's State Budget, a lot was made about a Climate Action Plan and an environmental war chest. Let's be clear. The problems that WA faces on climate and the environment will not be solved by plonking solar panels on Rottnest Island.
Today's release of Western Australia’s Native Vegetation Policy highlights a paucity of funding and a lack of ambition for this critically important responsibility of government. ➡️ wilderness.org.au/WA-Veg-Pol…
Let's hope the "improved protection and management of our state's unique native vegetation" includes Australian Sandalwood (Santalum spicatum).
The WA Government's forestry agency is still unsustainably harvesting Sandalwood.
It's going extinct in the wild.
Western Australia enters a new era of improved protection and management of our state’s unique native vegetation with the release of WA’s first Native Vegetation Policy. Find out more: ow.ly/Kmfc50JifMo#NativeVegetation

An recent update on the state of play with regard the Australian elections.
Interesting to see the differential between percentage of votes and number of seats won, e.g., Greens and National Party.

Right out in the bush today my mind wanders to the election. Our reps in politics are a disappointment. However I’m still proud of australia and will always cherish our freedom & full life. One day there will be change & we will also be far prouder of who we actually vote for 🙌

Australia's wildlife continues to decline at a terrifying rate. We fight everyday to save our precious animals, but need more people to fight with us.
You can help by making small sustainable changes.
You can help with your vote.

Two awesome native plants we’ve found coming up (and going gang-busters) on our block at White Peak:
1. Native Grape (Clematicissus angustissima) — an elegant-looking climber, endemic to the Geraldton region

2. Warrine / Warran/Warram (Dioscorea hastifolia) — a native yam. Its tubers are traditionally a much sought-after bush tucker by First Nation people between Perth and Shark Bay in Southwest Australia.
