Today is #WorldWetlandsDay! The more I study these ecosystems the more I realise that we need more knowledge and more science to inform their management and conservation. And, besides sciences, #Mangroves and #wetlands are gorgeous places to visit, and respect. #WetlandsDay

Mangrove crabs are great model animals to study the impact of #ClimateChange on invertebrates. Check out our paper on #ASLO_LETTERS led by @LyleVorsprung and Francesca Porri. @SWIMSHKU @UNI_FIRENZE
Thermal bottlenecks and the response to #ClimateChange in intertidal ectotherms are not clearly defined. This paper presents a conceptual model illustrating the thermal sensitivity of intertidal crabs. 🦀 ow.ly/VCpq50HvV9J @LyleVorsprung @SCannicci @aslo_org #ASLO_LETTERS

A discussion about #mangroves rehabilitation that started years ago with @fdahdouh1 is now a perspective paper. What a way to celebrate a lifelong collaboration that stated at @UNI_FIRENZE
*Did you know that crabs cannot be planted ?* Trees can be planted, but animals should migrate naturally to rehabilitated forests. So, restoration should be practised in areas with suitable conditions and nearby healthy forests. frontiersin.org/articles/10.… #mangroves @SCannicci

Another great #mangrove study by the @SWIMSHKU mangrove experts @Yiing, @LyleVorsprung and @cnot_paleo_hku! We advocate for a cultural shift about mangroves in Hong Kong and the whole Asia. They are biodiversity reservoirs not wastelands! (photo by @Yiing )
🚨Another new paper alert🚨 Out today in @STOTEN_journal led by @Yiing with @LyleVorsprung, @cnot_paleo_hku @SCannicci highlighting the plight of anthropogenic marine debris (AMD) pollution in Hong Kong’s mangrove forests. Available at authors.elsevier.com/c/1e8aK… for 40 days 1/n

Great collaboration among @LabImeco of @SWIMSHKU, SAIAB and Rhodes University! Check out our conceptual model illustrating the thermal sensitivity of intertidal crabs (represented by this East African fiddler crab)
New open access 🔓 paper just out in #ASLO_Letters led by @lylevorsprung and @SCannicci looking at the thermal sensitivity of dual-breathing ectotherms at key stages in their life-cycles doi.org/10.1002/lol2.10225 #climatechange #physiology #Crabs 1/

What a fantastic 🇧🇪 Minister of Development Cooperation @MeryameKitir we have. Less than 3 weeks after attending a presentation on #mangrove #ecosystemservices she is in the mud emphasizing for which vulnerable populations @COP26 is actually organised. demorgen.be/nieuws/minister-…

A great leadership by @ErikYando and @danfriess and a solid team work by all the authors resulted in this novel contribution to the conceptualisation of mangrove degradation. Honoured to be part of this great team and to represent @LabImeco, @SWIMSHKU and @UNI_FIRENZE
Excited to have our final @MMM5_Singapore post-conference wkshp manuscript out w Biological Conservation using mangroves as a model system for conceptualizing degradation! authors.elsevier.com/a/1dvSD… Incredible team includes @TMSloey @fdahdouh1 @KerryleeRogers_ @danfriess... 1/n

Thank you @MerrinPearse ! It was great fun to talk with about the amazing world of #crabs and the research we carry out @SWIMSHKU and @LabImeco
Looking forward to talking with @SCannicci today at 11:10am #HK Time (in 15 mins) about #crabs. Listen in to the interview on rthk.hk/radio/radio3 or Facebook live facebook.com/MorningBrewHK/

Marine ecologists reveal mangroves might be threatened by low functional diversity of invertebrates
In more than 60% of mangrove forests, crustaceans and mollusks have no functional redundancy, suggesting that even a modest loss of invertebrate diversity could significantly harm mangrove functionality and resilience. In PNAS: ow.ly/bfPm50FFLxt
