This is our special work train for the transbay tube earthquake retrofit project. This month will be your last chance to see it traveling from the Oakland shops into the tube. The work is wrapping up. 1/2/23 marks the end of late-night single tracking through the tube!!!!!
Behold, a #NUMTOT #Transit fan holiday wish come true: a sighting of the elusive @sfbart Maintenance train, with a surprise at the end. (1/2)

It is frustrating, and we apologize if you experienced a crowded commute. The reason for so many 8-car trains, instead of the usual 9 or 10-car trains, is higher than usual number of train cars are in maintenance after what has been a lengthy rain period across the Bay Area.
8 car trains during rush hour? @SFBART really? This is everyday this week. 🤦🏽‍♂️

During heavy rain, our operators and mechanics work doubly hard to avoid wheel flats. Wheel flats occur when the track is slippery and the wheels need to grind more to brake and accelerate safely. When train gets wheel flats, it's a stay in the shops.
This is what a wheel flat looks like. It is what we are trying to avoid by slowing acceleration and top speeds when the rails are slippery. It causes delays but keeps car in service and out of the repair shop. If we had lots of flats, trains would run short or be cancelled.

Today, we have 630 cars in service. We usually have around 700. This sort of shortage is temporary and the repairs are happening as we speak. We have heard crews are working overtime to get the cars the due maintenance to run them back out into service ASAP.

We are flattered to learn BART is on this morning’s @nytimes crosswords, but we want to say @SFMTA_Muni may find fault with BART being called “San Francisco’s metro”

Thank you @NYTGames
An earlier version of the clue for 1-Across in the Mini misidentified which geographic area the answer belongs to. It is a rail service for the Bay Area, not San Francisco. nytimes.com/crosswords/game/…

The @SFBART holiday sweater exceeds expectations. Not only is it stylish, it's very cozy! It's warm without being too warm. @sdmts trolley sweaters would be REALLY cute...

The authorized person in the track at Fremont has been removed. Trains are now moving at normal speeds in the area.
There is a 10-minute delay on the Berryessa Line in the Berryessa, Richmond and Daly City directions due to an unauthorized person in the track at Fremont station.
