🧵Thread on Scottish cases vs admissions between Delta and Omicron. Following yesterday's post Both groups Under 18/19 severity: Omicron > Delta Over 18/19 severity: Delta >> Omicron @Parents_Utd @SafeEdScotland @dgurdasani1 @chrischirp @HMcArdleHT @SGriffin_Lab @GYamey

The analysis can be improved --- currently done --- just by matching the last delta peak in the two age groups: No "uncoupling" of cases vs hospitalisation in under 18's compared to Delta For over 18's a huge reduction. Omicron is not "mild" in kids especially unvaccinated

Bloody hell... Don't worry, I'm sure JCVI will confirm the MHRA ruling any minute, seeing as plan B is being scrapped, masks in schools etc...I can't imagine the government would LEAVE CHILDREN UNPROTECTED, surely? 🤦‍♂️

I am particularly baffled by @scotgov on this. They are not obliged to follow the JCVI but are doing so, despite their whole ethos being about it being better for Scotland to take its own decisions and the success of child vaccination in many other countries. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I understand why they are doing it - breaking from JCVI could be seen to enable antivaxxers against the *other* actual vaccination programs by implication - but I still think it's the wrong decision. They - actually, the whole UK - should at least make it a voluntary option.
