We're doing it hard at the moment, but at times, the struggle & heartache disappear. A stranger saw something I said recently, & presented it to me. I'm proud to share it, because the message reminds us we're enduring hardship for the best of reasons - to protect our vulnerable.

Australians outside Victoria & NSW can avoid the pain & misery we have experienced. The only way is to get vaccinated, & to do so urgently. Don't pretend you've got all the time in the world, or that your borders will do the job for much longer. #COVID19Aus

On a break in our outdoor "tearoom", & the talk among Hospital staff is about gratitude to the people we don't need to see - the millions of Victorians getting vaccinated so quickly. Thanks for playing your part, & for encouraging the late arrivals. #Covid19vic

Nicely said, Chief Minister. For all our problems, #Covid19Aus has seen <1000 Australians die. Texas? 70,000. If .@tedcruz stopped making a virtue of ignorance, & listened to American doctors, that number would be much lower. thehill.com/policy/healthcar…

It never ceases to affect me when patients I see every shift or people I've grown up with have no sense of urgency about #Covid19Vic vaccination until it's too late. This virus is widespread in NSW & Vic, & will soon be right across Australia. Stop stuffing around. #COVID19Aus

Reopening in Melbourne will be wonderful for most. But it be an anxious time for many - especially the frail, & those who have forgotten life outside of lockdown. There's no rush. Take gentle steps. Allow yourself to savour the greatest joy - reunion with loved ones. #COVID19Vic

Mixed feelings for HCWs about opening Melbourne up again. Relief that the pain of lockdown will end, but anxiety & even fear at the impact on case number coming through emergency department doors (or should I say tent flaps). #COVID19Vic

Thank you to the nurses, doctors & other HCWs stepping into unfamiliar work & roles to help us in this crisis. Your generosity & courage is greatly appreciated. #COVID19Vic

You can focus on two "privileged white men", or the globally important issues they can influence: the #pandemic, #climatechange & care of the poor. Our greatest enemy isn't the person we disagree with. It's the hatred we allow to grow against them. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

Today's #Covid19Vic numbers are: I don't know. That's because I'm having a day off. Self care has never been more important. Look after yourselves, so that you can look after others.

On my desk this morning. This sort of rubbish bombards doctors. We see through it. Stop wasting paper, time & propagating harm. The worst cases actually involve threatened or actual violence against HCWs. Just go away. We have work to do. #Covid19Vic

It isn't easy to confront the #COVID19Vic 3rd wave. So much out of our control. Comforting to know almost all HCWs & aged care workers are vaccinated. But overseas experience suggests early HCW vaccination is now waning. There is an urgency to 3rd HCW doses. We need action. Now.

What's worse than seeing very sick #Covid19Vic individuals? Seeing entire families hit by the virus, across multiple generations. An elderly man sick in hospital, unaware his wife had died in another hospital. All unvaccinated. Avoidable.

And they keep on coming. Unvaccinated, some refusing the offer of an on-the-spot vaccine. Anxiety & self-harm. And the occasional abusive antivaxxer. We shrug it off, unless they become violent. Hang in there, everyone. #COVID19Vic's 3rd wave will end eventually.

Farewell & thank you #EddieJaku. A man whose life was a shining example His simple message will live on. "I do not hate anyone. Hate is a disease, which may destroy your enemy But which will also destroy you in the process." invidious.fdn.fr/watch?v=scCvi3vY…

While there is comfort in some days of fewer #COVID19Vic cases, any good impact on hospital cases & deaths will take weeks to filter through. Don't misinterpet less news out of hospitals. Too many grim stories. HCWs regard quiet streets & vaccination queues as your way to help.

Though they are all consumed right now with freeing up space for the next ambulance, giving urgent pain relief, safely doffing PPE & filling roster gaps, few realise it's #EmergencyNursesDay. A joy, relief & privilege to work, laugh & cry with you ❤. #COVID19Vic #COVID19Aus
