African American history is rich with inspirational figures and contributions that have moved our world forward. I'm glad that this new program will make AP African American Studies available to all high school students by 2024-25. 1/ wthr.com/article/news/nation…

I'd also like to see general Black History be a required course in Indiana. Every Hoosier student should be taught a comprehensive history of our nation, which includes Black history. 2/

I will definitely be renewing my push for a minimum wage increase next year. With inflation pushing living costs up, I'm hopeful that the supermajority will see the need to finally raise our stagnant $7.25/hr rate which hasn't increased in a decade. 1/ indianacapitalchronicle.com/…

At this time, NO ONE can survive on the current minimum wage, and we have a duty to the people of Indiana to give them the means to care for themselves and their families. 2/

Happy Women's Equality Day! Today recognizes the passage of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote and the progress we've made since. The recent months have shown that we still have a lot to fight for, but that didn't stop women before us, and it won't stop us either.

Students applying to or attending IU Northwest will soon see a break on several fees. Across regional campuses, IU is eliminating multiple fees that could hinder students, including their application and parking fees. 1/ bit.ly/3cjDcdM

The $25 per-credit-hour fee for Advance College Project courses is also being removed to allow students to access advanced classes without the cost burden. I'm extremely glad to see so many institutions working to make the cost of higher education less burdensome to students. 2/
Today I join members of our community in mourning the passing of Bishop Dale J. Melczek. For 23 years, he served his congregation in Gary, and I offer my deepest condolences to the Bishop's loved ones and religious community for this great loss. bit.ly/3cjhIO6

Thanks to @SenEddieMelton for hosting a discussion earlier this month at @iunorthwest in Gary with representatives from the Small Business Administration. Let’s work together to support the ability of all small businesses to access capital and thrive in our regional economy.
