The Omnicron variant is just another example of how COVID will be prolonged if rich nations and Big Pharma keep blocking vaccine distribution.

Well said👏, S.24 of the Bill of Rights which is the right to an environment that is not harmful to their health or well-being; for which the The state must take reasonable legislative, within its available resources, to achieve the progressive realisation of each of these rights
Replying to @Wits_SRC
Attending Wits is a privilege not a right. And the right of the majority to a safe environment outweighs the right of the minority to make irrational decisions. Disappointing that the SRC supports a dangerous and unscientific position.

Totally banal! Where to even start? Dr Coetzee didn’t ‘discover’ the #OmicronVariant she saw a case of #COVID19 #Omicron identified by 🇿🇦 lab & genomic surveillance excellence. Far too early to tell if #Omicron will be mild or not Sense not panic 🙄 independent.co.uk/news/healt…

Morning President @CyrilRamaphosa, Stop with the dilly dallying. What will a task team tell you that which isn’t common cause? Issue the damn mandates expeditiously. Time is not with us! Omicron could end up being oh-my-god. Vaccinate. Don’t vacillate!

Thanks @zapiro probably a blindfold over his eyes to demonstrate blindness to science also merited? Don’t think he actually read any memo, certainly not the G20 minutes based on CR comment.

These viruses are visible on @nextstrain as "21K (Omicron)" shown here in red (nextstrain.org/ncov/gisaid/a…). They do not descend from previously identified "variant" viruses and instead their closest evolutionary connection is to mid-2020 viruses. 3/16
