Okay dumb question. I thought FSB was domestic security and SVR/GRU did foreign intel. Does FSB area of responsibility also cover former SSRs?

Separately, some members of congress are beginning to advocate for a non-kinetic no-fly zone – something to the effect of using electromagnetic pulse, sonar, and cyber to keep Russian jets on the ground so they can never take off. Unclear how much support this will end up getting

I find the "any direct conflict with Russia would absolutely, 100% certainty, lead to all civilization getting vaporized" crowd and the "Let's casually get into a war with Russia nbd" crowd to be equally exasperating.

See, people are accusing Engel of saying what this guy said, which Engel categorically did not.
A large, concentrated Russian military column is en route to Kyiv. Ukraine's peer democracies know where it is and can destroy it. They absolutely must.
Find the courage to stop Putin, as Ukrainians do. Put aside fears of how Russia may react. Confront how Russia is acting.

There are plenty of silly takes out there, but so many of the folks piling on Engel are clearly ignoring the part where he says "But that would be direct involvement against Russia and risk, everything." Find someone else to dunk on, there's lots of options.
Perhaps the biggest risk-calculation/moral dilemma of the war so far. A massive Russian convoy is abt 30 miles from Kyiv. The US/NATO could likely destroy it. But that would be direct involvement against Russia and risk, everything. Does the West watch in silence as it rolls?
