The Barbarossa operation was accompanied by an intense propaganda campaign coordinated by Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda of the Reich. One of the most notorious pamphlets was Der Untermensch ("The sub-human"), published in 1942 by the SS & displayed in @auschwitzxhibit

19 January 1924 | Jew Anshel Grunberger was born in Gorond. During the war he lived in Munkacs (Mukacevo). In 1944 he was deported to #Auschwitz. Fate unknown.

This is new: On January 19, 1983, the Bolivian police arrested Klaus Barbie, the butcher of Lyon. German Cancellor Kohl prevented extradition to Germany. Tried in France and found guilty of crimes against humanity, Barbie received a life sentence.
Am 19.1.1983 nahm die bolivianische Polizei Klaus Barbie, den Schlächter von Lyon, fest. Kohl verhinderte eine Auslieferung nach Deutschland. In Frankreich vor Gericht gestellt und der Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit schuldig gesprochen erhielt Barbie lebenslänglich.

On January 19, 1945, the French-Jewish artist David Olère, prisoner of Sonderkommando at Auschwitz, began the death march from Auschwitz to the Ebensee camp, a satellite of the Mauthausen concentration camp. He was liberated by the Americans in May 1945.

A year after the Wannsee conference a transport of 748 Jews arrived at #Auschwitz from the Westerbork camp in the occupied Netherlands. 713 of them were murdered in gas chambers together with 1,744 Jews deported in a transport of 2,000 Jews from the ghetto in Grodno.

2/2 only 96 survived the war, despite the fact that the transports targeted able-bodied individuals who were intended as a labor detachment. For the next seven months, transports from Theresienstadt were halted on SS leader Heinrich Himmler's orders.

1/2 The first transport of Jews from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz occurred on 26 October 1942. Prior to the 26 October 1942 transport, 42,005 Theresienstadt prisoners had been deported to ghettos and extermination, especially the Minsk Ghetto, Treblinka, and the Lublin Reservation
