Also Elliot Richardson, who had been MA AG before serving in the Nixon and Ford admins in the '70s, later lost MA GOP primary for the US Senate in '84. The last AG to seek and win higher office in MA was Ed Brooke, elected to the US Senate in '66.

She is from a bit different background. Belotti had retired. Coakley was hated by base for her cover-up of the framing in the "Tookie" case.

so why is that the case here in Mass. while in New York, according to the talking heads on WAMC radio in Albany, AG stands for "Almost Governor"? Comeau is just the latest of them there to go from AG to Gov in NY. Curious.

I canโ€™t speak for all the other years, but in 2014, Martha Coakley was not a great campaigner. I think she may have been a good candidate, but missteps on the campaign trail really hurt her.
