Delighted to announce I will be working on a public history project, capturing the history of British South Asian political activism in the late 20th century. Most of this is oral history and very little has been recorded or documented. Hope to start conducting interviews soon!
Housing estates, urban planning, racist policing, knowing local economies, neighbourly relations, mutual aid - all this _can_ feed into "bottom-up community solutions" as described @Taj_Ali1 on Marsh Farm with his usual depth of background, engagement, entertainment and hope.
Delighted to have @glenninluton speaking at the meeting on how community organising helped to transform the Marsh Farm estate in Luton and the current battle to save Marsh House- a much loved community hub.

#EnoughIsEnough appointed its first regional coordinator today, @laura_organiser in Yorkshire.
She’s going to be speaking for us on your TV screens – give her a follow 👊
“There are people grafting 50-60 hours a week, struggling to heat or eat – it’s a disgrace.”

Energy bills are set to soar to over £5000 next year meanwhile:
British Gas: £1.3 billion profit between January & June
BP: £6.95 billion profit between April and June alone
Shell: £9.4 billion profit in a year
It's not a money problem; it's a corporate greed problem.
NEW: @CWUnews announces further strike action. Post Office workers to strike on August 26, 27 and 30 and BT and Openreach workers to strike on Aug 30 and 31 over poor pay and conditions.
“Energy prices have to come down – and to do that, we need people on the streets. We can’t wait for politicians.”
@RMTunion’s Mick Lynch explains why #EnoughIsEnough is building a mass movement against the energy rip-off.

NEW: Energy bills are set to cost more than 2 months of average take home pay next year according to analysis from @The_TUC. While energy companies make record profits, by October, British households will be paying more than 3 times what they were paying at the start of 2022.
“We will plant our flag in working-class communities all over this country, and then it’s up to people in those communities to make the change.”
@RMTunion’s Mick Lynch on our #EnoughIsEnough rallies.

My wife is the first fully certified female psychiatrist in #Gaza. I asked her if she started seeing children traumatized by the latest escalation few days ago. She said they were not finished seeing kids who were shell shocked during the 2021 war yet. 🤕
Corporate elite: billions in profit, 100s of millions to shareholders and millions into CEO pockets
The rest of us: massive price hikes, services that don’t work and wages that never rise
It’s time to say #EnoughIsEnough
