This is what happened to the human beings Thomas “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” Jefferson owned at the time of his death. Sold and separated from each other forever. Is that too political for teaching in schools? I don’t think so.

Really good advice, not just for biographers but for storytellers of all stripes. I like to think I got close to the target with my Ford book.
Writing thread: Openings, one of my favorite topics. In a work of history or biography, the first paragraph, often the first sentence, tells you if you are in the hands of a writer, or someone just trying to arrange research and argument in some kind of logical order. 1/9

Our sweet Kassie, whom we adopted at age 5, left us 2 years ago Nov. 6 2019. Miss her acutely.

Our Kassie, who left us 11/6/19 aged 14 yrs 4 mo. She was a total Welshie—playful and loving and mischievous and smart and fast. No one zoomed out the door faster than she did!
