They make it seem like once you are hurt, you just induce selective amnesia forgetting emotions are there for a reason.
That's the exact reason they wake years later and start talking about trauma and how to heal from past trauma.
There's no foolproof way to heal. In whatever way you choose to heal, you need to accept the fact that it happened and it hurt you. Denial of your emotions is just you postponing the pain for a later date.
